I have nothing to say for myself other than: happy wip wednesday! Have some modern au Yin Yang Master fanart of the three spirit guardians Snow Hound, Killing Stone and Mad Painter. :D
((Gotta fix some of the wonky anatomy before colouring this...))
Oh my god I have waited for someone to finally write about Qing Ming and Boya. Could you please write a small fic for them with "If you didn’t want to be a burden, you should have gotten it treated right", angst first (maybe a misunderstanding between these two rises up, Boya doesn't listen to Qing Ming), to the injury and finally the fluff. Thank you =)
Wow, this is the first fic I’ve written for this ship but I hope I did them justice!
When Qingming and Boya met again, much had changed. Boya was still the handsome young man he was when he and Qingming parted ways, but he seemed to have gained more muscle mass and tone, making him more handsome (in Qingming’s opinion). Qingming, of course, changed as well. Thanks to his complete Yin-Yang Master status and his ability to finally learn the protection spell, he had been practicing hard to make sure his magic and spells were better and faster and he was more confident with summoning his spirit guardians. So he also gained some muscle as well as slimmed down slightly. When their eyes met, they immediately walked towards each other, gravitating towards each other like connecting magnets.
“Boya. You look well” Qingming greeted, a soft smile on his face. Boya hummed, a small smile in the corner of his eyes.
“So do you” he replied. Qingming then tilted his head.
“What brings you all the way out here?” he inquired. Boya shrugged.
“I was doing some traveling. You are not an easy person to find” he stated, pointing a finger at him. Qingming blinked before he laughed and shook his head.
“Boya…were you looking for me?” he asked, a teasing note in his voice. Boya looked at him with wide eyes before he huffed and looked away.
“No, I was not” he replied. Qingming hummed.
“Sure” he replied before he turned and motioned with his head towards his home.
“Come. We have enough rooms” he stated. Boya nodded and followed after him, looking around as Qingming led him to his room.
“Your home is quite lovely…but don’t you get lonely?” he asked as he looked around. Qingming was quiet before he smiled slightly.
“On occasions. I have my demons, but it’s not quite the same. But you’re here now” he replied, glancing over at Boya.
“I’m certain to be less lonely now” he continued. Boya’s eyes widened and he looked away, a soft blush on his cheeks.
“Hmm” he replied. Qingming chuckled as they continued walking, soon arriving at Boya’s room.
“Here we are. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to ask. My demons will get it for you” he assured before he gave Boya a look.
“Please don’t kill them. I know how sensitive your inner demon hunter is, but please. They don’t deserve death” he stated. Boya looked at him for a moment before he nodded.
“I promise” he assured. Qingming smiled before he turned and headed off, only pausing to turn and look back at Boya.
“Boya” he called out. Boya, who was about to close his doors, looked up and raised an eyebrow.
“Hmm?” he replied. Qingming smiled and motioned to his home.
“You’re free to roam around. I won’t keep you like a caged bird” he assured. Boya tsked.
“As if you could hold me” he replied. Qingming’s smile grew before he turned and walked away. Boya watched him walk away, a small smile on his face, before he chuffed and stepped back into his room, closing his doors.
~*~*~*~*~
A few hours later, after Boya had rested and eaten the food Qingming had sent to his room, he went outside and looked around, marveling at the beauty of Qingming’s home. As he walked around, he noticed Honey Dew walking around, carrying a tray of tea. The demon hunter within him bristled and he felt himself reaching for his sword that was always at his side, but he remembered the promise he made to Qingming and quelled his hunter before he smiled at Honey Dew.
“Hello” he greeted. Honey Dew’s eyes widened and she looked like she was about to turn into a butterfly again when he held out his hand.
“I mean you no harm” he soothed. Honey Dew blinked at him and he nodded, assuring her that he really did mean no harm. Honey Dew then smiled slightly before she continued walking, making Boya frown.
“Where are you heading?” he asked, turning to follow after her.
“Master is practicing and I’m bringing him some tea” Honey Dew replied, her voice soft and tinkling, like a bell. Boya raised an eyebrow but continued to follow Honey Dew, who seemed to relax a bit more in his presence.
“What is he practicing, if I may ask?” Boya asked, looking over at Honey Dew.
“His magic” Honey Dew replied as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Boya nodded slowly, he remembered that Qingming used magic to fight and defend rather than use an actual weapon like a sword. Of course, he had his fan, but a fan could only do so much. However, he kept his comment to himself as he followed Honey Dew to what looked like an open portal.
“We’re going through there?” he asked. Honey Dew nodded before she walked through the portal, causing Boya’s eyes to widen before he quickly rushed after her, arriving in the snowy terrain that Qingming brought him to before to show him how his master died. He let out a shudder as the chilling wind bit through his clothes before he followed Honey Dew as she walked over to where a lone figure was practicing what looked a shielding spell against three spirit guardians.
“Master. I’ve brought your tea” Honey Dew called out as she placed the tray down on the cold ground before she turned and walked away, leaving Boya alone. Boya stood in silence and watched as the figure created more protection shields as the guardians attacked fiercely. At one point, Boya was going to step in, but the figure just let out a deafening scream, sending the three guardians flying away from him as the protective shield pushed out like a large barrier. Once the guardians were a safe distance away, the figure dissipated the shields and smiled.
“Thank you. That was good” he praised. The three guardians smiled as the figure turned towards his tea, only to stop when he saw Boya.
“Come to join?” Qingming asked, a teasing smile on his face. Boya huffed.
“No, I was just wondering where you had run off to, that’s all. I followed Honey Dew here” he explained as Qingming walked over to him.
“Is that so?” Qingming asked as he knelt down and poured four cups of tea. He then picked up a teacup and handed it over to one of his spirit guardians, Mad Painter. He then handed the other two cups off to Killing Stone and Snow Hound before picking up the final cup for himself.
“Did you have a look around?” he asked, glancing at Boya as he took a sip of his tea. Boya nodded.
“Your home is very beautiful, however, it does tend to set off my inner demon hunter” he answered. Qingming chuckled.
“Honey Dew was unharmed, so I know you kept your promise. Thank you” he thanked. Boya dipped his head as Killing Stone smiled.
“Would you like to spar with us, Master Boya?” he asked. Boya blinked.
“What?” he replied. Snow Hound motioned to him.
“You are a Spirit Guardian, are you not?” he asked. Boya nodded slowly.
“I am” he answered. Killing Stone smiled.
“Then you should practice with us! Some sparring would be good for you” he stated. Boya’s eyes widened and he looked over at Qingming, who just smiled.
“I don’t see why not” he agreed. Boya huffed before he stepped towards him, dipping his head slightly. Qingming then reached out and placed two fingers to the middle of his brow, his sigil glowing brightly. Boya then stepped back before he looked at the other spirit guardians, who had placed their cups down and were patiently waiting for him. He then stripped himself of his upper garment, revealing well-toned muscles and abs. As his black wings unfurled from his back, he rushed at the three spirit guardians, who were ready and waiting for his attack. Qingming, on the other hand, stepped back and quietly observed, sipping his tea as he did so.
‘Boya seems to have gotten stronger’ he mused as he watched Boya, Mad Painter, Snow Hound, and Killing Stone fight against each other. Boya was already a skilled fighter and demon hunter, but in his Spirit Guardian form, he was a much more powerful opponent. However, as he watched, Qingming noticed that Boya was favoring his right side of his body over his left, making him frown.
‘Did he injure himself?’ he wondered. At one point, Snow Hound flew around and punched Boya in the back, causing him to cry out in pain and essentially drop out of the sky. Qingming’s eyes widened and he quickly summoned a portal, which Boya fell through before ending up in his arms. Qingming caught him and lowered him to the ground as he let out a groan, Snow Hound, Mad Painter, and Killing Stone walking over to them.
“Boya. Are you alright?” Qingming asked, concern in his voice. Boya slowly pushed himself to his feet and clutched at his shoulder, nodded.
“I’m fine” he assured. Qingming gave him a look.
“You were favoring your right the entire fight. Did something happen? Did you get hurt?” he demanded. Boya huffed.
“Not here. In one of my previous demon hunts, I was attacked. The wound healed now, it’s just a little sore” he assured. Qingming huffed.
“Should I take a look at it?” he asked, reaching out to touch when Boya took a step back.
“I told you, I’m fine” he snapped. Qingming narrowed his eyes.
“But you’re clutching at your shoulder! It obviously must still hurt!” he argued. Boya scoffed.
“I don’t need to hear this speech from you” he hissed before he reached down and picked up his clothes, storming away from Qingming and the other guardians, walking through the portal. Qingming let out a heavy sigh before he looked over at Killing Stone.
“Follow him, but be careful. If he senses you, you’ll be killed” he instructed. Killing Stone nodded and quickly rushed after Boya, stepping through the portal. Once they were gone, Qingming looked over at Mad Painter and Snow Hound.
“You noticed that something was off, right?” he asked. Snow Hound nodded.
“He also seemed to have a large gash on his back that looks like it hasn’t healed properly” he answered. Qingming tsked, just as a sudden pain hit him in the chest, causing him to cough up blood and fall to his knees.
“Master!” Mad Painter exclaimed as he and Snow Hound rushed forward, kneeling down beside Qingming in concern.
“Boya…something’s wrong” Qingming croaked before he pushed himself to his feet and summoned a portal, trying to see where Boya was since he still had the magic eye on him. He soon found him, locked in a vicious battle with demons, Killing Stone doing his best to assist.
“Damn it” he hissed before he stepped through the portal, Snow Hound and Mad Painter following him.
~*~*~*~*~
When Qingming, Snow Hound, and Mad Painter stepped through the portal, Snow Hound and Mad Painter went to assist Killing Stone while Qingming raced over to Boya, throwing up a protection spell in front of him as he kicked away the attacking demon.
“Qingming! What are you doing?” Boya exclaimed.
“Saving you, what does it look like?” Qingming snapped as he lowered the shield to slice at a demon with his fan. Boya looked at him with a mixture of fondness and exasperation, when a demon came rushing towards them, Qingming especially. His eyes widened and he quickly dashed in front of Qingming, kicking the demon in the face before turning to look at Qingming.
“Qingming, go back. I’m fine, I can handle this” he assured. Qingming glared at him.
“I’m not leaving” he snapped as another demon came running towards them. He quickly opened a portal, sending the demon through it before it could get any closer to them, then looked back at Boya.
“I’m. Not. Leaving” he declared. Boya groaned.
“Why are you being so stubborn?! If you get hurt, then I can’t focus on killing these demons!” he exclaimed. Qingming huffed.
“And if you get hurt, or even die, then what am I supposed to do, Boya? Losing you would be like losing my other half!” he exclaimed. Qingming and Boya stared at each other, daring the other to say something, when Qingming saw a demon wielding a sword running towards them over Boya’s shoulder. He let out a soft sigh and smiled slightly before he grabbed Boya by the shoulder and spun him around so that his back was facing the demon.
“Qingming, what are you doing?!” Boya shouted, eyes widening. Qingming just smiled as he threw out a hand, throwing open a portal. He then gave Boya a shove, shoving him through the portal just as the demon stabbed him through with sword.
“QINGMING!!” Boya screamed as Qingming closed his hand into a fist, closing the portal before Boya could get out. He then collapsed to the ground, clutching at his wound as the demon raised its sword to strike again when Killing Stone came up behind him and sliced off his head. Once he was dead, Killing Stone knelt down beside Qingming and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Master!” he exclaimed before he looked over his shoulder at the other two guardians.
“Mad Painter! Snow Hound!” he shouted. The two guardians rushed over to them and knelt down beside them as Snow Hound looked at Qingming.
“Master, can you create a portal to get home?” he asked. Qingming nodded and threw out a hand, summoning a portal that led to his home. Mad Painter and Snow Hound then helped Qingming to his feet before they guided him through the portal, Killing Stone following behind.
~*~*~*~*~
Back at Qingming’s home, Boya paced back and forth like a caged tiger, full of nerves and worry. Suddenly a portal opened, making him whip his head towards it, eyes widening as Snow Hound and Mad Painter guided Qingming through the portal, Killing Stone bringing up the rear.
“Qingming!” he shouted, rushing over to the man. Snow Hound and Mad Painter immediately backed off, joining Killing Stone as Boya grabbed Qingming by the shoulders
“You idiot. What did you go and do that for?” he hissed. Qingming smiled slightly.
“Sorry” he apologized before his eyes suddenly rolled into the back of his head and he collapsed.
“Qingming!” Boya exclaimed, bundling Qingming into his arms. He then looked up at the three guardians, fear in his eyes.
“What do I do?!” he exclaimed. Snow Hound said nothing as he pulled out a talisman and threw it at Boya and Qingming.
“Sleep” he ordered. Boya’s eyes widened before they fluttered shut and he slumped forward over onto Qingming, both men unconscious. Snow Hound then looked over at Killing Stone and Mad Painter, both men nodding in return before the three of them walked over to Boya and Qingming; Killing Stone easily picking Boya up and throwing him over his shoulder like a sack of rice while Mad Painter and Snow Hound carefully picked up Qingming, the three of them carrying the two men to a nearby room.
~*~*~*~*~
A while later, Qingming slowly opened his eyes, blinking the sleep away from his eyes. He let out a groan as he slowly sat up, clutching at his stomach as he did so.
“So you’re awake” a voice murmured, making his eyes widen and look over to see Boya sitting next to him, still shirtless except he had a bandage around his torso and shoulder.
“Boya” he whispered. Boya turned and looked at him, tears in his eyes as he stared into Qingming’s.
“I thought you died” he hissed. Qingming smiled and shook his head.
“But I’m not” he replied. Boya glared.
“That’s not something to joke about…how could push me away like that?” he demanded. Qingming was quiet before he motioned to Boya’s chest and shoulder.
“What happened?” he asked. Boya shook his head.
“Don’t change the subject” he hissed. Qingming just gave him a look.
“Answer me and then I’ll answer you” he replied calmly. Boya huffed and looked away, not meeting his eyes.
“You were right. About my injury earlier…it hadn’t healed properly but I just pretended that it did” he replied. Qingming frowned.
“Why didn’t you say something?” he asked softly. Boya sighed.
“I didn’t want to be a burden” he replied. Qingming huffed.
“As if you could ever be a burden. If you didn’t want to be a burden, you should have gotten it treated right the first time” he scolded gently. Boya turned and glared at him.
“I know that” he snapped before he pointed at him.
“Now what’s your excuse? Why did you step in front of me and take the blow that was meant for me?!” he shouted. Qingming smiled fondly.
“Because I care for you. That’s why I did it” he replied. Boya huffed.
“Still doesn’t give you an excuse. I thought you died. And then you pushed me away!” he exclaimed. Qingming shook his head.
“I didn’t want you to see me if I died” he replied, as if it was the most logical thing. Boya’s eyes widened.
“What was it that you said to me earlier? “Losing you would be like losing my other half”?” he asked. Qingming nodded.
“I did say that, yes” he agreed. Boya then reached out, taking his hand.
“Don’t push me away, Qingming. I don’t think…” he started, soon overcome with emotions. Qingming smiled, but tears were also in his eyes as he leaned forward and rested his forehead against Boya’s.
“I won’t. I’m sorry” he whispered. Boya shook his head.
“I can’t…I can’t lose you” he admitted. Qingming smiled weakly.
“I can’t lose you either” he replied. The two sat in silence, breathing together, before they pulled away and looked into each other’s eyes.
“Let’s promise each other to not do something so stupid and reckless again. At least not without the other” Qingming suggested. Boya laughed and nodded.
“Alright” he agreed. Qingming smiled and hummed in approval before he laid back down and shut his eyes, since his abdomen was starting to ache. Boya looked down at him and smiled fondly.
“Rest, Qingming. I’ll watch over you” he assured. Qingming cracked open an eye and huffed.
“You need to rest too” he reminded as he reached up, grasping Boya’s arm and dragging him down so that he was laying down next to him.
“This is so…” Boya started when Qingming chuckled.
“Improper?” he teased. Boya hummed, causing Qingming to shake his head.
“There’s no one here but you and me. There’s nothing improper here” he assured. Boya looked at him before he sighed.
“Alright” he agreed. Qingming smiled and shut his eyes, his breath soon evening out as his body began to relax and he began to fall asleep. Boya watched him sleep for a moment before he felt sleep tugging at him to join Qingming, so he shut his eyes and soon slipped off into slumber. As they slept, Killing Stone quietly entered the room to check on them and he found them face each other, foreheads pressing against each other, their fingers entwined. Killing Stone smiled softly and dipped his head to them before he quietly backed out of the room and shut the door, letting them sleep in peace.
