Our new range of ancient madder fabrics are handprinted in Macclesfield, England, and then handmade in our workshop in our lightly lined, six-fold construction.
These artisanal madder silks are the best reproduction of the vintage stuff we've ever seen in terms of depth of colour as well as that chalky, dusty feel, with none of the environmentally harmful chemicals and dyes used in the traditional ancient madder manufacturing process.
Texturally and visually, ancient madders are a truly perfect match for tweed or flannel suits in the winter.
Two new handprinted silks with a soft madder finish have just been added to our webstore!
Both are untipped with handrolled edges (as always), made with a lined six-fold construction, and are available in limited quantities only.

Reaction Faces & Madder silk
The exuberant body language and vivid facial expressions of Italian politicians are a great source for memes like 'reaction images' and 'reaction faces'. Massimo D'Alema already achieved internet stardom as the do-not-want-guy. Giulio Tremonti has similar potential - I made him the avatar of my II&IS tumblr account for a reason. Anyway, I am particularly amused by the contrast between the understated V-zone consisting of a navy suit jacket (your basic singlebreasted style with notched lapels), spread collared shirt with a tiny blue dress stripe, blue brown 'ancient madder' silk tie and the total lack of understatement or stiff upper lip of the visage above. When seeing British or Northwestern European finance ministers you will probably see the reverse: more pokerface - less polished, or for lack of a better word 'slick' style. Pictures by Cristina Pica.
