The snow fell around Mathieu as he relaxed on his porch. He loved watching the first storm of the season from his trusty rocker on his covered porch. His hands clutched his warm cup of morning coffee. He was tempted to wake his sister, but he enjoyed his peaceful mornings more than he enjoyed his dear little sister’s visits.
“Matt, I need you, now!”
Mathieu jumped, causing his coffee mug to crash to the ground beside him as the thunderous yell of his brother broke the calm of the morning.
“Victor?! What are you doing here?!”
He wasn’t expecting his brother, but really he should have noticed his beat up pick-up truck making it’s way down his secluded road much sooner. He stood, folding the light blanket he had wrapped around him as Victor unceremoniously parked his truck on the lawn near the stairs.
“We need a place to lay low for a week or two!”
Mathieu’s eyes widened as he turned to his brother, fixing his glasses, “Wait, we? Who’s we?”
“I’m we!”
Amelia jumped out of the passenger seat, and waved, “Hi Mat, gods it’s so cold out here! How are you not freezing in that rocking chair of yours?”
Maddison peaked her head out the screen door as she grumbled, “By not wearing a crop top and shorts in the middle of winter.”
She placed her glasses on and held the door open, moving everyone inside, “As unexpected your visit is, lets get you inside before Mat and I have frozen sculptures for siblings.”
Amelia laughed before pulling her into a bear hug, lifting her into the air excitedly, “Maddie! I didn’t know you were here! We can have a girls night while Victor and Mat fight over the dinner menu! It’ll be just like old times!”
Mathieu sighed as he began to brew more coffee for everyone, mourning his favorite mug before blinking, realizing he neglected to ask what trouble they had inevitably gotten into.
“Hold on there, why do you two need to lay low? What did you do? Who did you tick off this time?”
Amelia sheepishly mumbled, “I may have, kind of, sort of, accidently, dropped Esme’s favorite china set while trying to practice my swing for softball season.”
Maddison groaned, “Oh dear, she must have been heartbroken. She’s had that set since she was a child, centuries ago.”
Amelia rolled her eyes, “I know! It was an accident! She’s pissed, so I figured I’d pay Mat a visit while she cools down and I figure out a way to make it up to her before Klaus finds out and never lets me live it down.”
Mathieu rubbed his eyes in frustration before turning his attention to his brother, “And what have you done?”
Victor poured himself a cup of coffee, “Oh the usual, I snuck Nat out for a date night and her brother saw me when I dropped her off. His aim is getting better by the way.”
Victor motioned to the tear on his right shoulder, “But she had a good time, so it’s worth it.”
Mathieu sighed as he began to cook breakfast for his guests, all they were missing were Tristen and Jay. They could have had a whole Wilson family reunion.
