I feel really bad for Helluva Boss fans. They’ve been wanting a Millie episode for forever (hell I’ve wanted that) and when they get one it’s her doing the same thing she always does: making the men in her life feel better.

She has one job in Ghostfuckers: restore Blitzo’s broken ego. Tell him he’s a special little boy that did nothing wrong. Hell if it wasn’t for Blitzo, Minnie would still be a “wild and crazy” mercenary instead of a…domesticated housewife? God she really got neutered didn’t she :(

None of this is new obviously. It’s the same crap I said in my video over a year ago. But I guess I was hoping for at least some acknowledgement that things might get better. I hate the show, but I also love it? It’s too fascinating to write off. I mean I gotta be Helluva Boss’s most prominent scholar at this point.

Whether purposeful or accidental…it’s kind of an evil show. Or at least, it has really bad messages. A bit ago I concluded that the most generous interpretation of Helluva Boss is it’s soft core smut you’re not supposed to take seriously. Toxicity is hot as long as you understand it’s actually bad in real life. If I have to think of this show as a real story with real characters, it’s pretty awful. Maybe the safest bet is for us to turn off our brains and jerk it :(

Are there any fictional characters you'd consider as good representation of people under the transgender umbrella (whether that be non-binary, trans masc, trans fem, intersex, etc?)

Yeah absolutely!

Dead End: Paranormal Park is amazing. There are some comic books I read recently that I thought were great (Girl Haven, Cheer Up: Love and Pompoms). I Saw The TV Glow and People's Joker were the big cinema standouts of 2024.

Oh I also discovered this mid-2000s anime called Lovely Complex that had a pretty ahead of its time depiction of a trans girl.

I feel like I'm forgetting some recent ones I saw lol. We still don't have the definitive "transitioning" movie. Like, a movie where we see someone transition from one gender identity to the other. It's something I would really love to see one day. Hell I'll take a shot at writing it haha!

It’s important to remember that Helluva Boss is not in the business of “fixing” itself. It’s a gigantic success with hundreds of thousands of fans. There is no reason to change anything. The show is working!

There’s never going to be some big reveal that everything was “wrong” actually and it was all leading to [insert the ending you want]. Because what the show is now is what the creators want. And it’s what the fans want. Clearly. Because the show is super popular.

We can’t judge a piece of media by its potential, especially when there is no indication that anything we see will ever change. The show is and always will be about problematic relationships being presented as good and fun. It will always be about how men have more agency than women, subtle inherited homophobia, unhealthy views of kink culture, and a very conservative stance on morality.

It’s probably too harsh to call Helluva Boss a Christian show, but at the very least it’s a show that doesn’t question the puritan assumptions baked into our society. And it doesn’t seem very interested in doing so.
