CHAPTER: One-shot
SUMMARY: Loki, after witnessing the chaos in Cairo, decides to appoint his own Avatar.
[A/N - In this, Khonshu never released Marc and Steven.]
Steven was walking down the streets of London when he heard the screeching of breaks and breaking glass. He ran towards the sound.
Two people were in an intersection yelling at each other. Neither of them were hurt, but it was clear that one had t-boned the other.
Steven heard giggling. He looked up and saw a shadow dart behind a building.
A few blocks over, there was another crash.
“What’s going on?” Steven asked.
“I don’t know, but whatever it is, it can’t be good,” Marc said.
Steven ran towards Piccadilly Circus and saw all the billboards malfunctioning.
A small figure was watching the mayhem.
“You wanna take this one?” Steven asked.
They switched so Marc had control of the body. He called upon his suit and went after the figure.
The figure spotted them and started running across the roofs. As the figure ran, they threw green energy bolts.
Marc finally caught up to them and tackled them. “Stop running!”
“Ow. Jesus, you weigh a ton!”
Marc stood up.
The person stood up and threw back their hood.
It was a girl with brown curls and hazel eyes. The girl was young, practically a kid compared to him. She was dressed in a black and green leather outfit with a metal headband that resembled horns. She pulled out twin daggers.
Steven took over. “Woah, woah, easy there.”
“Who are you?” she asked.
“My name is Steven Grant.”
“What happened to the other guy?” She noticed that the guy who tackled her wasn’t the same who was talking to her. That and his suit was different.
Marc and Steven switched places.
“I’m Marc Spector.”
They switched back.
“And I’m Steven Grant.” He took a step towards her and she raised one of her daggers.
“Don’t come any closer.”
“I’m not gonna hurt you.” Steven spotted a crate and sat down on it. “See? I’m not a threat to you.”
She lowered her dagger.
“What’s your name?” Steven asked her.
“Madison. Madison Barton.”
“Barton? You’re Hawkeye’s daughter?” Marc asked, taking over for a second.
“He’s my father.”
“Enough talking,” Loki said, stepping out of the shadows.
Marc stood up, ready to fight.
Khonshu appeared at his side. “Loki of Asgard.”
“Khonshu of the Ennead.”
“I see you’ve selected an Avatar.”
“Ah, yes. Did you enjoy chasing my little Phoenix? She’s quite a pretty little bird, isn’t she?” Loki ran a finger down Madison’s cheek and neck.
“Since when do the Asgardians have Avatars?”
“I saw what happened in Cairo and I thought it might be fun to have my own personal mischief maker on Midguard.”
“She’s a kid!” Marc argued.
“I am not! I am a grown woman!” Madison insisted.
“Does your father know what you’re doing?”
“I don’t know. Why don’t you ask him? He has no control over me. He has a new family now.”
“How could you work for the god who nearly destroyed New York?” When Marc brought up New York, something snapped inside Madison.
“Don’t talk to me about New York! I fought in that battle! I would be dead if not for Loki!”
That sounded familiar to Marc. It was also clear that Loki had manipulated Madison into being his Avatar, much like Khonshu had done to him. She suffered from PTSD and family issues and Loki preyed on that.
“Khonshu?” Marc asked, looking up at the God.
“My hands are tied. She’s not killed anyone on his behalf.”
“Killed anyone? Are you insane? I would never kill anyone on Loki’s behalf. We only play tricks. I make sure no one’s harmed," Madison told them.
“Are there any other Avatar’s we should know about?” Khonshu asked.
“She’s the only one. Like I said, it seemed like fun,” Loki said.
“Stay out of my way Asgardian. Next time I may not be as merciful.”
Loki bowed mockingly before vanishing.
Khonshu did the same, just leaving their Avatars.
“So… you wanna go get a coffee or something? Or maybe some tea?” Madison said, “You can explain the whole Steven/Marc thing.” Madison waved a hand over herself and her leather outfit turned into a leather jacket, graphic tee, and skinny jeans.
It was then that Marc spotted the sparkling diamond ring on her finger. “You’re married?” he asked.
“Yeah. Two years now.”
“Does your husband know what you do?”
“He understands.”
Marc nodded. Him and Layla were the same.
Marc and Steven switched.
“I’ll take that tea now,” Steven said.
“Let’s go then, Moon Knight.”
“Wait…how did you know…?” Madison tapped her temple.
The darker presence inside Marc and Steven smiled.
TITLE: Not His Madison
PAIRING: Steve/Peggy, Clint/Piper (OC), Madison/Peter
RATING: T
CHAPTER: One-shot
SUMMARY: In the new timeline (established by Steve going back to be with Peggy), Steve prevents Madison from becoming a SHIELD agent.
[What if…Steve had a hand in preventing Piper's death? Thus preventing Madison from becoming an agent of SHIELD.]
“Steve, come with me. I want you to meet one of the new recruits,” Peggy told him.
Steve groaned and stood up, following his wife out of his office.
Peggy opened the door to the training room and a young man stood there firing arrows with a bow.
He turned and Steve found himself staring back at a much younger Clint Barton.
“This is Agent Barton,” Peggy introduced.
“Clint, please,” he said, “It’s an honor to meet you, Captain Rogers.”
Steve shook his hand. “I look forward to working with you, Clint.” Steve kept an eye on Clint as he rose through the ranks of SHIELD.
A new recruit joined the team a few years later. Her name was Piper Hoffman and she was paired with Clint. She had chocolate brown curls that matched the one’s Madison had (or will have).
He saw a lot of Madison in her. She was kind, but she had a fire about her.
Clint and Piper soon married and Piper became pregnant.
“What are you having?” Steve asked her.
Piper smiled and stroked her baby bump. “A little girl. Although Clint and I can’t decide on a name.”
“What about Madison?”
Piper thought it over and finally nodded. “Madison. Madison is a good name. Madison Annemarie Barton.”
“Why Annemarie?” Steve had never found out the origin of Madison’s middle name. He doubted not even Madison knew.
“Oh, Annemarie was my grandmother’s name. She raised me after my parents died.”
“I’m so sorry.”
Piper put a hand on his forearm. “It’s okay. It happened when I was a little girl. I hardly remember them now.”
Steve found it ironic that Piper’s childhood so closely paralleled her daughter’s.
With the late 80’s brought the renewed Cold War and with it, a mission to infiltrate the Kremlin and steal nuclear weapon plans.
It also brought a man who Steve barely got to know before his death, Phil Coulson. “Hawkeye and Pip, you’re up,” Coulson told them.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea to send both of them,” Steve argued.
“Steve?” Peggy asked him.
“It’s just…they have a new baby.”
Madison was barely a year old.
“What if something was to happen to them?”
Peggy sighed. “Pip, you stay behind.”
Piper kissed her husband goodbye.
Clint was sent on the mission alone and came back unharmed. At least now Madison would grow up with both parents.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Steve watched Madison grow. Her childhood was normal, Piper having left SHIELD shortly after Clint returned from Russia. What Steve said resonated with her. She didn’t want to leave her little girl without anyone to take care of her.
Clint stayed on at SHIELD, but took less dangerous missions. He wanted to be there to see Madison grow up.
Piper and Clint went on to have two more children after Madison. Lila and Cooper.
There was no Nathaniel, because there was no Natasha. Natasha had been a big influence on his Madison, but maybe it was for the best for this one.
When Clint wasn’t on a mission, he lived in a suburb in Brooklyn. Spending time with his loving wife and his children.
Madison never learned to shoot a bow, so she never joined SHIELD. Loki never gave her any powers, but that didn’t stop her from falling in love. Madison was walking down the street when a body slammed into her.
“Oh my god! I am so sorry!”
Madison looked up and saw a boy with brown hair and brown eyes. “It’s alright. You didn’t break anything.”
He helped her up and she pulled out her cellphone. “Well, except maybe my phone.”
“I can fix that.”
“It’s fine. I needed a new one anyway.”
“I’m Peter. Peter Parker.”
Madison smiled. “Madison Barton.”
“Hawkeye’s daughter? Saw the footage from that battle in Manhattan. He was awesome!”
Madison giggled. “I’ll be sure to tell him that.” Madison introduced Peter to her family and put him in contact with SHIELD and the Avengers.
“Wow. Captain America!” Peter gasped, “Dude, big fan!”
Steve chuckled. “Thanks, son.”
Looking at Peter and Madison, you could tell the two cared for each other deeply. Peter had always been the better choice for her anyway.
Steve once again reminded himself that this Madison wasn’t his Madison. She was her own person, even though she shared many traits with the Madison who had loved him.
This one was open and happy and wore her heart out on her sleeve. She’d never know the heartbreak of losing her mother or her mentor. She could live out her life spending time with her parents and her siblings. Marrying Peter and maybe having children of her own. Following the path that every child was meant to take, but none of it would change what had happened to his Madison.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Returning to the other timeline felt odd for Steve. He’d spent so many years living the life he always wanted. He handed off the shield to Sam and then he heard a voice he’d heard a few years prior, from another Madison.
“Hey, big boy.”
He turned and saw her standing there. His Madison.
The one who had loved him and given her heart to him. The one who had seen and been through so much heartache, but all the hardships had done was made her kind. She was mother and a wife now. She had a beautiful daughter named after her mother and he could only imagine what her future would look like. “I hope you got your happy ending,” she told him.
“I did, but so did you.”
And then she did something that he would replay in his mind until the day he died.
So I just got home from "No Way Home" and of course Madison is chattering away in my head.
Here's a snippet of something:
Spoilers for "No Way Home" under the cut.
Spiderman came through the portal with a girl.
"Madison?" Ned asked.
Madison cocked her head at him. "Who are you?"
Spiderman took off his mask, except it wasn't their Peter. "Hi. I'm Peter Parker and this is my girlfriend, Madison Barton."
Ned nodded. "Yeah, we know who she is."
"I have no idea who you people are."
"Okay, so if there's more than one Peter, it stands to reason there's more than one Madison," MJ said.
And a snippet of something else (that will probably get included in Madison's canon):
"You have anyone?" the older Peter asked.
Peter blushed. "Uh, yeah. We haven't been dating for very long."
"Well, go on. What's her name?"
Peter smiled. "Madison. Madison Barton."
This universe's Peter turned to him. "Wait. You're dating Madison?"
"Yeah."
"I dated Madison."
The two younger Peter's looked at the older one, who shrugged.
"Never met a girl named Madison."
"Does you Madison explode into green flames?" this universe's Peter asked.
Peter laughed. "She explodes alright, but not into green flames."
"Green flames?" the older Peter asked.
"Uh, yeah. Her superhero name is Phoenix. Loki, the God of Mischief, healed her after the Battle of Manhattan and transferred some of his powers to her. So now when she uses her powers, she explodes into green flames. She's also married to a guy who's faster than the speed of light and her daughter can do the same thing she can," this universe's Peter tried to explain.
The other two Peter's stared at him.
"Is she an agent for SHIELD? Does SHIELD exist in your universe?"
"Um, no and no. Her parents own a security firm and let me tell you, her mother Natasha is terrifying."
"Clint and Natasha are together? Natasha is Madison's mother?" That was everything Madison had ever wanted. To have a normal family and childhood.
"So she doesn't use a bow and arrow? Or twin daggers?"
"No, but the girl can sure pack a punch."
This universe's Peter laughed. That sounded like his Madison. "Just...just tell me she's happy."
Peter nodded. "She helped me through my darkest time after losing Gwen. She's my angel. I don't think I could have done it without her."
Now that was something both Madison's had in common. They loved helping people and they stood by the ones they loved.
"Well, this Madison girl sounds pretty cool. Now I'm bummed I'll never meet her," the older Peter said.

SUMMARY: In the TVA, Loki has the opportunity to check in on his greatest achievement, Madison Barton.
[A/N - Please proceed with caution if you’ve read or are following my Madison Barton series, it does contain spoilers to later installments. This can also be read as a stand-alone. Just thought I’d let you know.]
“Shall we look at something else you’re responsible for?” Mobius asked. He pressed a button and a video of Madison popped up on the screen.
Loki leaned forward in his seat.
Mobius noticed the look in Loki’s eyes. It was soft, adoring. He’d even go as far as to say loving or enchanted. “You care about her. That’s interesting.”
“She and I are not that different.”
“How’s that?”
Loki rolled his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest again.
“No. I really wanna know. I wanna know who this girl is and why you’re so attached to her.”
Loki sighed, glancing at the screen again. “Her father lied to her about her mother’s death and my father lied to me about where I came from.”
“You don’t really sound similar at all.”
“There was something about her. She was meant for more than just being a mindless soldier. When I brainwashed her father, I learned a lot about her. About her fire, her willingness to fight to get what she wanted. I admired that.”
“But that’s not it, is it? You gave her some of your magic.”
“To save her.”
Mobius leaned in closer to Loki. “I thought we were telling the truth.”
“I wanted to use her. Fine! Is that what you wanted to hear? I was going to make her into my own personal attack dog.” Loki had never seen his little dove angry, but with a father like Clint Barton and a mother like Natasha Romanoff, he could only imagine.
“Would you like to see how her life played out?” Mobius clicked the play button.
Loki watched her be injured by the Chitauri. He watched himself heal her.
He watched her go through the first break-up with Steve. He saw the tears and the heartache.
The fling she had with a boy named Peter. The flashbacks and the nightmares. He desperately wanted to jump through the screen and wrap his arms around her. He wanted to protect her from it all.
He saw the second break-up with Steve. Her going off on her own to find herself, before she finally settled down with a quickster named Pietro. Loki rolled her eyes at the cocky snow-haired boy charmed her with his sarcasm and wit. He watched them fall in love, Madison using the magic he gave her to meet with him in secret.
Then the scene changed to one Loki recognized, his own death. He watched her sob over his dead body.
Why had she been on the ship? How did she get there? If she cared for him like he cared for her, he could only imagine what she felt in that moment.
Then there was the Snap. Loki watched as Pietro faded away before Madison’s eyes. He watched her give birth to her daughter with only Natasha by her side. Loki wondered where Clint was at that moment. Why wasn’t he standing in for Pietro?
Watching little Piper grow up brought a smile to his face. Loki had never given much thought to having children, but she was so innocent. She had no idea what her mother had been through. What it took for her to get to this point.
But the last scene made Loki more proud than he could ever be. He watched a green phoenix sweep a battlefield and his little dove was floating above it all. She conjured daggers and energy blasts and wielded her magic like an expert.
He watched her be reunited with Pietro and go on to have two more children with him.
“She lives a happy life. Despite everything that happened to her. I think you could do the same if you tried.”
Loki fixed Mobius with a stare. “Has it ever occurred to you that maybe I don’t want a happy life?”
“Everyone wants a happy life.”
“Well, I’m not everyone.”
But looking at Madison’s happy little life made Loki question if he could find that. Maybe if he found a way, he could pull her out of her timeline. He could help her with her magic, turn her into the phoenix he saw sooner. So many questions swirled around in Loki’s brain.
One thing he was sure of. Madison, whatever version, would be his. He would make sure of it.
Title: He’s a Rebel
Chapter: One-Shot
Pairing: Pietro/Madison
Rating: T
Fic Summary: Pietro has problems with following orders.
Author’s Notes: This is my one-shot for @avengerscompound‘s “Take a Line Challenge”. The line is bold and italicized in the fic. Kolibri is Russian for “Hummingbird”. Madison Barton is my Avengers OC. This probably won’t make much sense without being familiar with my “Madison Barton Series”, but can be read without it.
Historically, Pietro had problems with authority.
It had started out in school doing typical things like not listening to the teachers, etc.
Whatever they told him to do, he did the exact opposite. So needless to say, joining the Avengers wasn’t the easiest task. He tried to get along with them for Madison’s sake.
The only one he really had a problem with was Steve. Maybe it had something to with the fact that he had to take orders from his girlfriend/soulmate’s ex-boyfriend or maybe it was because Steve was far too righteous for Pietro’s liking.
“He needs to loosen up”, Pietro told Madison.
“You just don’t know him that well. The only time you’ve spent together is on missions. Steve’s just very focused while on missions. Outside the field, he’s just a normal guy”.
“Doesn’t explain why he has to be the leader all the time”.
Madison sighed. “Pietro, we’ve been over this. Steve leads the missions because he’s been doing this the longest. He’s been in an actual war”.
Pietro rolled his eyes and continued to sulk.
“Okay, fine. Would you take orders from anyone else?” she asked him.
Pietro thought about it. He damn sure wouldn’t take orders from Vision (because he hated him) and Stark was too annoying. Banner hardly ever went on missions as it was and Pietro barely listened to Clint anyway. He loved getting a rise out of his girlfriend’s father. “Natasha”, Pietro finally answered.
Madison cocked an eyebrow at him. “Are you sure about that? Is that your final answer?”
“Your mother is scary, Kolibri. I wouldn’t want to cross her”.
Madison smiled and leaned down to kiss him. “Good answer”.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The minute they were off the jet, Steve and Pietro were at each other’s throats.
Another mission had gone wrong and resulted in Natasha being injured. All because Pietro hadn’t followed the plan.
Madison, not wanting to deal with the high levels of testosterone, went with Natasha to the infirmary.
“You need to learn to listen to orders”, Steve told him.
Pietro stepped closer to him, his nose nearly touching Steve’s. “And you need to remove that stick from your ass”.
Steve knew Pietro was trying to get a rise out of him, but he wasn’t taking the bait this time. “What happens when you go off by yourself and you get hurt? Remember Sokovia?”
Pietro could still feel the bullets entering his body and the pain that came with it. It had broken his heart to see Madison, his Kolibri, leaning over him and trying to heal him with her powers.
“What if Madison gets hurts because you can’t follow orders?” Steve asked him, trying a different tactic.
Pietro didn’t have answer for that.
“Look, I know you don’t like me, but chances are we’re going to be dealing with each other for years to come. Madison and I may not be together anymore, but I still care a great deal for her”, Steve told him, “I know you’d never let anything happen to her. We didn’t get off on the right foot, but I’m willing to put that behind me if you can too”.
Steve held a hand out. Pietro shook it and Steve smiled, patting Pietro on the shoulder.
“You know, I was a lot like you when I was younger”, Steve told him as they walked to the infirmary.
“Really? Yeah right”, Pietro scoffed.
“I was! I broke rules all the time” Steve insisted, “Maybe not quite in the same way as you though. I stood up against things I thought were wrong”.
“Rebel with a cause?”
Steve laughed. “I guess you could put it that way”.
When they arrived at the infirmary, Madison walked up to them.
Pietro wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her to him.
“Well you two haven’t killed each other, which is good”, she said, “What were you talking about?”
Pietro smirked. “James Dean”.
“James Dean? Correct me if I’m wrong Roadrunner, but he was way before your time”.
“James Dean is a classic, Kolibri”.
She smiled and pecked him on the lips. “Does that make you my rebel without a cause?”
He didn’t answer the question and simply pressed his lips to hers. It didn’t matter if Pietro had a cause or not, he’d always be a rebel.
I feel like I should point out that even though Madison refers to Natasha as her “mother”, Natasha is not her biological mother. Just wanted to make that clear.

CHAPTER: One-shot
SUMMARY: Madison has escaped to San Francisco following the events of the Battle of New York and meets a certain Symbiote and his host.
Madison was walking down the streets of San Francisco. There wasn’t a solid reason why Madison was in the Golden Gate City. She needed a break from her father and the other Avengers and besides, it wasn’t like she was helpless. She could only hope that no one came looking for her. Being the child of a solider and a spy made it easy for her not to be tracked.
“Aren’t you a pretty young thing?” a voice said, snapping Madison out of her thoughts.
She turned and saw a large man standing there.
He had a knife in his hand.
“You really don’t want to do this”, Madison said.
He smiled evilly and said, “Oh, I think I do”.
“Fine. Have it your way then”. Her eyes turned bright green and green flames licked at her fingertips. Madison heard a deep, dark chuckle behind her.
“She’s not as helpless as we thought”.
Madison looked up and saw a large black mass.
It jumped over her and grabbed the man. “Can we eat this one?”
“Umm, I wouldn’t really recommend it”, Madison said.
The creature laughed before biting the guy’s head off.
Madison gasped and jumped back.
The creature walked up to her. “You are special”.
“Um, thank you? Who and what are you if you don’t mind me asking?”
“Are you scared of us?”
“Let’s just say you’re not the first monster I’ve met”. Since the Battle of New York, Madison had stopped being shocked by things.
“Our name is Venom”.
“Why do you speak in plural?”
It’s face peeled back to reveal a man underneath. “I’m Eddie. Venom is my…friend”. Eddie disappeared as Venom took over again.
“I’m Madison Barton”.
“Madison”.
“Would you mind if I spent some time with Eddie? I’m kinda hungry. Maybe he’d like to grab a bite to eat. One that isn’t a living human”.
“You are very polite. We like it”, Venom said and let Eddie take over.
“Thank you for not freaking out”, Eddie said.
“He seems like an okay kind of guy. Better than some other monster’s I’ve met”.
Madison and Eddie went to his favorite burger place.
While they were waiting for their food, Eddie explained how he and Venom had become.
“Wait. Venom’s from outer space?” Madison asked.
Eddie nodded.
Venom popped out of Eddie’s shoulder. “Is that a problem?”
“I didn’t mean to offend you or anything. It’s just earth hasn’t had the best relationship with aliens in the past couple years”.
Venom disappeared back into Eddie’s body.
“I’m sorry about him”, Eddie said, “So how’d you get your…” Eddie wiggled his fingers.
“Oh, a homicidal god gave them to me after he tried to destroy New York and kill my family”, Madison told him like it was a normal occurrence.
We must protect her.
“Do people usually try to kill you and your family?” Eddie asked.
“Well when your family is Earth’s Mightiest Heroes…yeah”.
When they finished their dinner, Eddie asked, “So, where are you staying?”
“Just a hotel”.
“You should crash with us”.
“Really? I don’t want to impose”.
“It’s nothing. And Venom seems to like you”.
“Okay”.
Madison and Eddie stood outside the airport a month later.
They had grown quite close, except Madison drew the line at romantic relations (no matter how much Venom came onto her).
She told Eddie and Venom all about her childhood and her family. Eddie listened to her when she woke up with nightmares in the middle of the night and Venom had a habit cuddling with her when she napped.
“Are you sure you have to go?” Eddie asked her.
“I’m afraid so. My family needs me. The vacation was nice, but I’m needed back in New York”.
Make her stay.
“No Venom, we are not making her stay”.
Venom manifested as a head above Eddie’s shoulder.
“Aw, I’ll miss you too Venom”, Madison told him. She had grown quite attached to the Symbiote. “I’m sure I’ll be back one day. But if you’re ever back in New York, look me up”. She leaned forward and kissed Venom’s forehead.
Venom purred and nuzzled Madison’s face.
“Take care of him, alright?” she told him.
Venom nodded and disappeared into Eddie.
“You’re not gonna tell your family about this, are you?” Eddie asked, “Cause I don’t need them showing up and coming after Venom and me”.
“Of course not. Just make sure your goo boyfriend doesn’t eat anyone important. Well I should probably get inside and check in. Goodbye Eddie”.
“Goodbye Madison”. As she walked away from him, he realized what Madison had said. “Wait. Goo boyfriend? Venom’s not my boyfriend!”
What’s wrong with that? I happen to think you’re pretty attractive.
Eddie rolled his eyes and muttered, “Shut-up Venom”.

CHAPTER: 8/?
SUMMARY: Madison Barton, Junior Agent for SHIELD, is determined to get her father back from Loki. Along the way, she falls in love. When her father returns, she is determined to get revenge on Loki for what he did and becomes an Avenger herself against her father’s wishes.
Madison walked down the hanger bay with her father on one side, Natasha on the other and Steve in front of them.
They walked onto one of the jets.
“Hey, you guys aren’t authorized to be in here”, an agent said.
“Son, just don’t”, Steve said.
Madison grabbed the agent’s arm and threw him off the jet.
Steve turned to her as her father took the pilot’s seat. He could see the anger bubbling under her skin. He walked up to her and rubbed her arms with his hands. “Hey, what’s wrong?” he asked.
“Nothing. I had a fight with my father. He doesn’t think I should be going with you”, she said softly. Madison looked up into Steve’s blue eyes and said, “I’m scared”.
“You have a right to be. You’re just a kid Madison”.
“Not just for myself. For all of us. My father, Natasha, you”.
Steve gave her a small smile took her chin in his hand. He tilted her head up and gently kissed her.
Clint growled, but stopped when Natasha hit him on the arm.
“They’re happy”, she said softly, “Don’t ruin it”.
Madison was an adult now.
Barely, but he knew this day would come.
Someday she’d fall in love.
He just didn’t think that day would come so soon.
As they got closer to New York, the more anxious Madison became. “Can’t you fly this thing any faster?” she asked her father.
“Don’t start with me Madison Annemarie Barton”, Clint snapped.
Steve stepped up and ran his hands soothingly up and down her arms. “It’s gonna be okay”, he told her.
She wanted so badly to believe him. When she joined SHIELD, she never in a million years thought she’d be doing this.
They finally arrived in New York and the invasion had already started.
“Stark, we’re on your three, headed northwest”, Natasha said.
“What? Did you stop for drive through?” Stark snapped, “Swing up Park. I’m gonna lay them out of you”.
They soared around New York shooting at the Chitari as they approached Stark Tower.
“Nat?” Clint asked.
“I see him”.
Loki raised his scepter and shot out one of the engines.
They were suddenly falling out of the sky…again.
Steve, tall enough, grabbed onto the top of the jet, while Madison was thrown from one side of the jet to the other.
Her father desperately tried to land the jet. When he got out of his seat, he rushed over to Madison. “Baby Bird?” he asked.
Madison groaned and stumbled to her feet, holding her head.
“It’s okay. I got you. Daddy’s got you”, Clint said softly.
Madison scrambled for her bow and followed them out of the jet. She loaded an arrow and surveyed her surroundings.
“We got to get back up there”, Steve said running towards Stark Tower.
They all followed.
Suddenly, a large snake/whale thing came out of the portal and roared.
“Stark, are you seeing this?” Steve asked.
“Seeing, still working on believing”.
“That makes two of us”, Madison muttered.
“Where’s Banner? Has he shown up yet?” Stark asked.
“Banner?” Steve asked him.
“Just keep me posted”.
The four of them took cover behind a taxi.
“We’ve got civilians trapped up here”, Clint said.
“Loki”, Steve said, watching him fly by. Steve looked over the side of the bridge they were on as Loki shot taxis and buildings, people screaming and running looking for shelter. “They’re fish in a barrel down there”.
Natasha stood up and started shooting, along with Clint. “We got this. It’s good. Go”, Natasha told him.
“Do you think you can hold them off?”
“Captain, it would be my genuine pleasure”, Clint said and started to fire arrows.
Steve knelt in front of Madison.
There was fear in her blue/grey eyes.
“Madison…I…” Steve started to say, but Madison stopped him.
“Please don’t say it”, she pleaded, “We’ll both get out of this alive. I promise”.
Steve leaned down and kissed her. He broke the kiss quickly and got up.
Madison stood up and watched the man she cared about run into the line of fire. She’d promise him that they’d both make it out alive. She only hoped she could keep that promise.
