My name is Haley Michelle and this where my original writings live. I primarily write fanfiction, so there's a chance you've already read some of my work.
I hope to be professionally published one day, so those stories will go here for the time being.
So I just got home from "No Way Home" and of course Madison is chattering away in my head.
Here's a snippet of something:
Spoilers for "No Way Home" under the cut.
Spiderman came through the portal with a girl.
"Madison?" Ned asked.
Madison cocked her head at him. "Who are you?"
Spiderman took off his mask, except it wasn't their Peter. "Hi. I'm Peter Parker and this is my girlfriend, Madison Barton."
Ned nodded. "Yeah, we know who she is."
"I have no idea who you people are."
"Okay, so if there's more than one Peter, it stands to reason there's more than one Madison," MJ said.
And a snippet of something else (that will probably get included in Madison's canon):
"You have anyone?" the older Peter asked.
Peter blushed. "Uh, yeah. We haven't been dating for very long."
"Well, go on. What's her name?"
Peter smiled. "Madison. Madison Barton."
This universe's Peter turned to him. "Wait. You're dating Madison?"
"Yeah."
"I dated Madison."
The two younger Peter's looked at the older one, who shrugged.
"Never met a girl named Madison."
"Does you Madison explode into green flames?" this universe's Peter asked.
Peter laughed. "She explodes alright, but not into green flames."
"Green flames?" the older Peter asked.
"Uh, yeah. Her superhero name is Phoenix. Loki, the God of Mischief, healed her after the Battle of Manhattan and transferred some of his powers to her. So now when she uses her powers, she explodes into green flames. She's also married to a guy who's faster than the speed of light and her daughter can do the same thing she can," this universe's Peter tried to explain.
The other two Peter's stared at him.
"Is she an agent for SHIELD? Does SHIELD exist in your universe?"
"Um, no and no. Her parents own a security firm and let me tell you, her mother Natasha is terrifying."
"Clint and Natasha are together? Natasha is Madison's mother?" That was everything Madison had ever wanted. To have a normal family and childhood.
"So she doesn't use a bow and arrow? Or twin daggers?"
"No, but the girl can sure pack a punch."
This universe's Peter laughed. That sounded like his Madison. "Just...just tell me she's happy."
Peter nodded. "She helped me through my darkest time after losing Gwen. She's my angel. I don't think I could have done it without her."
Now that was something both Madison's had in common. They loved helping people and they stood by the ones they loved.
"Well, this Madison girl sounds pretty cool. Now I'm bummed I'll never meet her," the older Peter said.
TITLE: Last Christmas
PAIRING: Clint/Piper
RATING: T
CHAPTER: One-shot
SUMMARY: The Christmas before Madison was born was the last Christmas Clint and Piper spent together.
Clint couldn’t have been happier, but at the same time he was on edge all hours of the day.
Piper was pregnant with their first child. A little girl they were going to name Madison.
Ever since learning Piper was pregnant, he’d turned into an overprotective Papa Bird. He watched Piper like a hawk as she went about her daily routine and frequently had to stop himself from helping her. Whether it was carrying groceries in or reaching for something in the cabinet.
He couldn’t count how many times she had snapped at him, “God Clint! I’m pregnant, not an invalid! I know your codename is Hawkeye, but that doesn’t mean you have to watch me like one.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It was Christmas in the Barton household and Piper was getting ready to decorate the apartment.
Clint had wanted to move to upstate New York and buy them a house in the suburbs, but Piper didn’t want to leave the city.
“The city is so beautiful during Christmas, Clint!” Piper had argued. But they reached a compromise and Piper agreed to start looking at houses after the holidays were over.
This Christmas would be the last Christmas they spent together as two people. Come next Christmas, they would have a new baby bird in the nest. Which, Clint argued, was even more of a reason to start looking for a bigger place.
“Please don’t tell me you’re planning on dragging the tree in here yourself”, Clint said.
“No actually. I was going to let you do that.”
Clint sighed in relief.
“Gotta make you feel like you’re still important”, Piper said patting him on the back.
Clint pouted, pretending to be offended, as Piper giggled. She leaned up and pecked him on the lips.
Clint went to go get the Christmas tree and when he came back, Piper was standing on a chair, hanging up decorations. “Piper! Get down from there!” Clint snapped.
Piper sighed and stepped off the chair. “We’ve had this conversation before, Clint.”
“You could’ve easily fallen and hurt yourself or Madison!”
“Clint! I’m perfectly fine! I’m not a china doll!”
Even when Piper was yelling at him, Clint couldn’t help but fall deeper in love with her. That’s what he loved about her. Her fire and her fight. It was a trait that would eventually be inherited by their daughter.
“I’m sorry”, Clint told her.
“I understand that you’re scared, Clint. I’m scared too, but pregnant women are stronger than you think. In 3 months I’m going to be pushing her out of me.”
“I…I just don’t want anything to happen to you or her, Pipes.”
“See? She’s going to have to best dad in the world”, Piper said placing her hands on his chest, “Everything is going to be fine. I promise”.
Clint leaned down and kissed her. “Promise me that if you try to put up any more decorations, that you’ll let me help you.”
Piper pulled away and glared at him.
“I won’t stop you from climbing up on a chair. I’ll just stand behind you to prevent you from falling”, Clint assured her.
“Fine”, Piper said, compromising with her husband.
“Speaking of decorations…” Clint reached into a box and pulled out a little stocking. “I know she’s not born yet, but I bought a stocking for her. We don’t have to put it up this year…”
Piper kissed her husband. “I think it’s perfect”.
“I can’t believe she’s going to be here in 3 months”, Clint said placing his hands on Piper’s stomach.
“Just as the other birds are having their babies.”
Clint just laughed and kissed her. Neither of them imagined that this would be their last Christmas together.
Clint abandoned the idea of leaving New York City all together after Piper’s death. He couldn’t imagine not spending Christmas in the city her mother loved so much.

TITLE: Thing About Superheroes Chapter 7
PAIRING: [Peter/Madison]
RATING: T
CHAPTER: 7/?
SUMMARY: It’s been 6 months since Steve left Madison and Madison met Peter. Madison is head over heels for Peter, but memories of Steve and the Battle of Manhattan haunt her days and nights. Will Peter and Madison’s relationship work out? Or will Madison have to choose between loving Peter or following Steve to DC?
Madison and Peter finally made it to the Barton apartment in Brooklyn.
“I’m so sorry, Peter,” Madison said.
Peter sighed. “It’s just…you scare me sometimes, Madison. You’re constantly on alert and looking for a fight.”
“It’s all I’ve ever known! This is what I was raised to be! You try have two assassins as parents and see how you turn out! Look, I don’t want to fight with you, but you have to understand that being in SHIELD, being an Avenger, it’s what I was trained for. I never had a normal childhood.”
Peter wrapped his arms around her. “I’m sorry you had to go through that.”
Madison deserved better than to be treated like a soldier. She deserved to experience everything a normal teenager did.
Madison started to shake in Peter’s arms and that’s when he realized she was crying. “Hey, hey, shhhh. It’s okay. You’re okay, Maddie.”
Madison looked up at him. “I wish I could be normal. For you.” Madison could see herself falling in love with Peter, but so many things held her back from doing so. Steve, her past, her future at SHIELD and as an Avenger. It wasn’t fair. Why couldn’t she have the things that every little girl dreamed of?
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’m not normal,” Peter told her, “And I’d never want you to change who you are. The fire inside you is part of you.”
Madison sniffled and leaned up to kiss him. The kiss was gentle and her lips were salty with her tears.
Peter returned the kiss until Madison pulled away.
“Will you stay with me until I fall asleep? I…I don’t want to be alone tonight.”
“Of course.”
Madison led Peter to her bedroom and went inside the bathroom to get changed. She set her necklace down on the counter and reached for her pill bottle. She swallowed two of them and then crawled in bed with Peter, her head on his chest.
There were no nightmares that night.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The next morning, Madison woke up to voices coming from the living room. She got up to investigate and found her father, Tony, and Fury. “What’s going on?” Madison asked.
“Why don’t you tell us?” Tony said, pulling up a video on his phone.
It was of the fight the day before.
Madison hadn’t seen the footage. She looked unhinged and nothing like herself.
“You attacked a civilian,” her father said.
“Who was going to rob me and Peter. I think I was justified,” she argued.
Tony sighed. “Katniss, you’re not well. You barely sleep, you pop pills like they’re candy, and your temper has been off the charts lately.”
“I’m not crazy!” The last thing Madison wanted was to be sent to a psych ward.
“You need help!”
Madison looked at her father. “Daddy, please!”
Clint shook his head. “Tony’s right. You need help, Baby Bird. Help that Tony and I can’t give you.”
Madison wrapped her arms around Clint and buried her head in chest. “Please don’t let them take me. I’ll be better, I promise!”
Clint could feel his heart breaking in his chest. It felt like losing her mother all over again, but he was going to put Madison’s needs above his own. Like he should have after Piper’s death. “This is the best option. Fury is going to make sure you get the best help you can. Then, you can officially train to be a SHIELD agent or you can choose to come back to New York and live a normal life.”
Madison knew she wasn’t suited for civilian life, but deep down she knew they were right. What if she snapped and seriously hurt someone? Or worse, what if she accidentally killed someone one day? Finally, Madison nodded. “Okay.”
“Good. You have one day to say your goodbyes,” Fury told her, “Arrangements have already been made. We leave tomorrow.”
TITLE: Thing About Superheroes Chapter 6
PAIRING: [Peter/Madison]
RATING: T
CHAPTER: 5/?
SUMMARY: It’s been 6 months since Steve left Madison and Madison met Peter. Madison is head over heels for Peter, but memories of Steve and the Battle of Manhattan haunt her days and nights. Will Peter and Madison’s relationship work out? Or will Madison have to choose between loving Peter or following Steve to DC?
Madison woke up the next morning and rolled over in bed. Her eyes settled on her jewelry bureau. She slid out of bed and walked over to it.
Inside it sat a little velvet box.
Madison pulled it out and brushed off the dust. She sat back down on her bed and opened it, running her fingers over the pendent. She hadn’t worn it since Steve gifted it to her. She still loved Steve and part of her knew she always would. He would always be a part of her life, especially if the Avengers ever had to get back together. She finally took it out of the box and put it around her neck before getting ready for the day.
Tony was waiting for her when she walked into the kitchen. “No nightmares last night? Guess your boy-toy wore you out.”
“We’re not discussing this,” Madison said as she poured herself a thermos of coffee.
“Oh come on, Katniss. It’s not like I’m your dad.”
“No, but you are old enough to be, which still makes it weird.”
Tony finally noticed the pendent around her neck. “Souvenir?”
Madison reached up and rubbed it between her thumb and pointer finger. “I’ll see you later, Tony.” Madison made her way to the nearest subway station for the 45-minute ride to Queens. She popped in her earbuds and let her mind wander.
How much longer would she be in New York? Was Fury ever going to call her back in? What if her days in SHIELD were done? What would she do then?
Before she knew it, they were calling her stop. She got off and made her way to the Parker apartment.
May greeted her with a smile and a hug. “Peter! Maddie is here!”
Madison could hear thumping and cursing coming from Peter’s bedroom. She giggled as Peter came out of his room, hair sticking up everywhere and a sweater haphazardly throw on.
“Hey. Hey Maddie.”
Madison walked up to Peter. She glanced around and found May gone. She reached up and ran her hands through Peter’s hair as she kissed him.
Peter’s eyes fell shut and he returned the kiss. One of his hands came up to rest on her neck. That’s when he felt the chain under his hand. He pulled away and touched the necklace.
Madison looked down at it. “Steve gave it to me the day he left for DC. I found it this morning. Meeting Steve was a dream come true. I grew up on the stories of Captain America.”
Instead of feeling jealous, Peter was intrigued.
It wasn’t very often that Madison opened up about her childhood.
“Let me get dressed and you can tell me more,” he told her.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
They ended up going to the bodega and grabbing a couple of sandwiches.
Madison told Peter more about her unconventional childhood being raised by several SHIELD agents in addition to her father.
On the way back to the Parker apartment, the two were stopped by a large man. “Hand over all your money.”
“I don’t think you want to do this,” Madison said.
“Oh, I think I do.”
“Fine, have it your way.” Madison rushed at the man and brought him down using Natasha’s signature move.
“Madison! Stop!” Peter yelled as people started to film on their on cellphones.
Madison finished the man off with a punch to the face.
This was the first time Peter had seen Madison fight in person. Of course he’d seen the footage from the Battle of Manhattan, but this was different. His sweet Madison had disappeared and was replaced with someone who fought with rage and fury, completely disregarding her surroundings. Peter grabbed Madison by the arm and pulled her off the man.
The crowd around them was growing and soon they were swarmed by people wanting Madison’s autograph or congratulating her.
Madison just stood there in a daze.
“Madison, Maddie, look at me,” Peter told her.
Madison snapped out of it and looked around wildly. People were yelling her name and shoving phones in her face.
“Peter,” Madison whimpered.
Peter wrapped his arms around her and ushered her away from the crowd.
“What’s going on?” she asked him.
“I’m taking you home.” Peter hailed a cab and gave the driver the address of the Barton apartment in Brooklyn, Madison burrowed in his side.
TITLE: Not His Madison
PAIRING: Steve/Peggy, Clint/Piper (OC), Madison/Peter
RATING: T
CHAPTER: One-shot
SUMMARY: In the new timeline (established by Steve going back to be with Peggy), Steve prevents Madison from becoming a SHIELD agent.
[What if…Steve had a hand in preventing Piper's death? Thus preventing Madison from becoming an agent of SHIELD.]
“Steve, come with me. I want you to meet one of the new recruits,” Peggy told him.
Steve groaned and stood up, following his wife out of his office.
Peggy opened the door to the training room and a young man stood there firing arrows with a bow.
He turned and Steve found himself staring back at a much younger Clint Barton.
“This is Agent Barton,” Peggy introduced.
“Clint, please,” he said, “It’s an honor to meet you, Captain Rogers.”
Steve shook his hand. “I look forward to working with you, Clint.” Steve kept an eye on Clint as he rose through the ranks of SHIELD.
A new recruit joined the team a few years later. Her name was Piper Hoffman and she was paired with Clint. She had chocolate brown curls that matched the one’s Madison had (or will have).
He saw a lot of Madison in her. She was kind, but she had a fire about her.
Clint and Piper soon married and Piper became pregnant.
“What are you having?” Steve asked her.
Piper smiled and stroked her baby bump. “A little girl. Although Clint and I can’t decide on a name.”
“What about Madison?”
Piper thought it over and finally nodded. “Madison. Madison is a good name. Madison Annemarie Barton.”
“Why Annemarie?” Steve had never found out the origin of Madison’s middle name. He doubted not even Madison knew.
“Oh, Annemarie was my grandmother’s name. She raised me after my parents died.”
“I’m so sorry.”
Piper put a hand on his forearm. “It’s okay. It happened when I was a little girl. I hardly remember them now.”
Steve found it ironic that Piper’s childhood so closely paralleled her daughter’s.
With the late 80’s brought the renewed Cold War and with it, a mission to infiltrate the Kremlin and steal nuclear weapon plans.
It also brought a man who Steve barely got to know before his death, Phil Coulson. “Hawkeye and Pip, you’re up,” Coulson told them.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea to send both of them,” Steve argued.
“Steve?” Peggy asked him.
“It’s just…they have a new baby.”
Madison was barely a year old.
“What if something was to happen to them?”
Peggy sighed. “Pip, you stay behind.”
Piper kissed her husband goodbye.
Clint was sent on the mission alone and came back unharmed. At least now Madison would grow up with both parents.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Steve watched Madison grow. Her childhood was normal, Piper having left SHIELD shortly after Clint returned from Russia. What Steve said resonated with her. She didn’t want to leave her little girl without anyone to take care of her.
Clint stayed on at SHIELD, but took less dangerous missions. He wanted to be there to see Madison grow up.
Piper and Clint went on to have two more children after Madison. Lila and Cooper.
There was no Nathaniel, because there was no Natasha. Natasha had been a big influence on his Madison, but maybe it was for the best for this one.
When Clint wasn’t on a mission, he lived in a suburb in Brooklyn. Spending time with his loving wife and his children.
Madison never learned to shoot a bow, so she never joined SHIELD. Loki never gave her any powers, but that didn’t stop her from falling in love. Madison was walking down the street when a body slammed into her.
“Oh my god! I am so sorry!”
Madison looked up and saw a boy with brown hair and brown eyes. “It’s alright. You didn’t break anything.”
He helped her up and she pulled out her cellphone. “Well, except maybe my phone.”
“I can fix that.”
“It’s fine. I needed a new one anyway.”
“I’m Peter. Peter Parker.”
Madison smiled. “Madison Barton.”
“Hawkeye’s daughter? Saw the footage from that battle in Manhattan. He was awesome!”
Madison giggled. “I’ll be sure to tell him that.” Madison introduced Peter to her family and put him in contact with SHIELD and the Avengers.
“Wow. Captain America!” Peter gasped, “Dude, big fan!”
Steve chuckled. “Thanks, son.”
Looking at Peter and Madison, you could tell the two cared for each other deeply. Peter had always been the better choice for her anyway.
Steve once again reminded himself that this Madison wasn’t his Madison. She was her own person, even though she shared many traits with the Madison who had loved him.
This one was open and happy and wore her heart out on her sleeve. She’d never know the heartbreak of losing her mother or her mentor. She could live out her life spending time with her parents and her siblings. Marrying Peter and maybe having children of her own. Following the path that every child was meant to take, but none of it would change what had happened to his Madison.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Returning to the other timeline felt odd for Steve. He’d spent so many years living the life he always wanted. He handed off the shield to Sam and then he heard a voice he’d heard a few years prior, from another Madison.
“Hey, big boy.”
He turned and saw her standing there. His Madison.
The one who had loved him and given her heart to him. The one who had seen and been through so much heartache, but all the hardships had done was made her kind. She was mother and a wife now. She had a beautiful daughter named after her mother and he could only imagine what her future would look like. “I hope you got your happy ending,” she told him.
“I did, but so did you.”
And then she did something that he would replay in his mind until the day he died.
