i made a substack! i've been feeling the push to put my writing out in the world again after years of Avoiding That At All Costs. i'm working on a longer non-fiction project and i'm writing this newsletter as a companion to that project.

i'll be choosing a piece of media every two weeks that i will try to engage with on a deep level. lots of this will be christian media from my childhood/teenage years, as well as some stuff i encountered more recently that speaks to my experiences. expect to see lots of stuff about religion, spiritual abuse, power, womanhood/femininity, mental health, faith, and culture.

Sometimes I'm like "ADHD hyperfixation memes are exaggerated" and then I realize I've listened to nothing but Brand New City by Mitski for three days

You know, I feel like the fact that ace folks are often, as a group, at the core of a lot of discourse is that they’d have a large concentration of younger people (as people take time to go through puberty/possibly develop attraction)

Like, not having developed attraction’d feel about the same as not having it. So yeah, ace folks have been known to, generally, say some stupid shit. But I think in those cases, they’re mostly just kids.

And responses to it could be more instructive to say the least.

Am I the only one?

Alright, so I'm an autistic who watches the Good Doctor and of course I highly relate to Shaun, but sometimes I feel like I'm more like Lea. Like I'm on the opposite spectrum in some aspects. I talk really loud and ramble and don't make sense and sometimes I touch people too much. Like obviously I'm way more like Shaun, but sometimes I feel like Lea's behavior is a bit autistic-ish. Am I the only one?

funny when you're drawing near the end of a season of your life that has been marked by clear direction, clear goals, and a clear path to them. you're just looking out at the next season that's so marked by the lack of these things—these signposts—and it feels... dangerous, I guess.

but I don't want to make the mistake of assuming that a lack of signposts means emptiness. maybe it's more a wildness, dark water. maybe i'm supposed to explore.
