Haven't posted here in a while but my disabled cat desperately needs new leg braces so sharing our story!
I adopted Athena in June 2024 after seeing her listing online. She had deformed front legs and couldn't walk. I told myself I was just going to visit her that day at the shelter, but I think I knew deep down I wasn't leaving without her. As a paraplegic wheelchair user, we bonded instantly. We searched for ages until we found a veterinary orthopedic specialist and a rehab specialist who were just crazy enough to say 'hey, what if we put braces on a cat?'. It was nothing short of a miracle that the very first time Athena tried her braces, she took her first steps.
Fast forward a year and some months and Athena has grown out of her kitten sized braces. She is back to sliding around on the floor again, which is causing pain and spinal damage. She needs the new braces ASAP but I just don't have the funds to start the process. To do new imaging and cast moldings of her legs will be over $800, with the new leg braces likely costing $800-$1300 (definitely not less than $800). She is also on a medication that costs $50 a month, plus will need physical therapy and repeated follow ups.
I love athena so so much and I want to help her in any way I can, which means asking for help. Please share and donate if you're able. It means the world to us.
