He wanted to show his own, but that felt like absolutely the wrong thing to do. It didn’t feel like it would help, and he could not justify to himself or to her to ask her to compare. That felt wrong at its core.

He had to be careful with how he went about this because the thing was he cared them. He thought of Maddy as his friend, regardless of if that was reciprocated. He bit his lip, and tilted his head, “I’d disagree, but my opinion hardly is what matters right now,” he told her, earnestly.

“I think you should ask why they make you feel that way. I think... maybe, you’ll find that the reason for them is ugly, NOT YOU who carries them.”
