OMG i have that exact same dish! I use mine as a spoon rest on the stove, I didnt realize it is oven safe!

Probably it is! Mine came as part of a set along with a baking kit. I wouldn’t use them for like, super high temperature baking or anything, but they do fine at 350F.

The only ADR I know is a veterinary acronym for a common presentation symptom in cats: Ain't Doing Right. Despite the joky sound it can be pretty serious. Many cats are good enough at hiding their illnesses that "He's just act...not his usual self? Kinda weird, maybe?" can be the initial presentation for anything from cancer to diabetes. Somehow I suspect RDJ is a bit more articulate?

LOL! Well I suppose in some ways the whole movie is Ain’t Done Right but in this case it stands for Automated Dialogue Replacement, which is a bit of a misnomer -- it basically just means that rather than reshoot the scene, if the audio is messed up or just “sounds wrong” or if they want to add in a line, they have the actor come into a recording studio and re-record the dialogue. It tends to have a specific “off” sounding quality to it that’s hard to define, and sometimes it has a different sound quality to non-ADR lines.

Sounds amazing. I thought about doing some kind of berry topping on mine but I think I’ll just add jam if I want to feel fancy.

Ha, I have a pan like the orange one! I got it with a small pumpkin pie kit a while ago, I meant to get a second and never did.

We probably had the same brand of kit! I know they make a couple of different flavors.

I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that I’m struggling to think of something I love. Focusing on stuff is hard right now. The stuff I do enjoy I feel bad for enjoying, because of worries of what others might say or that it’s awkward and I’m being obsessive. I wonder a lot if there’s any point in me liking something. But...

There’s a painting in the museum I used to work at. It’s called El Jaleo, by John Singer Sargent.  It’s huge, like 10′ by 15′, and it’s a dark painting, lit from what seems to be a fire behind the viewer. Along the back wall are people sitting, some flamenco dancers waiting their turn, a guitar player, another musician, and a singer with his head thrown back (kids think he’s sleeping).  But forefront is a flamenco dancer, her dress drawn up against her, a foot pointed out, her body twisted in a way that seems almost impossible, obviously having finished a routine and about to start the next.  She has an air of confidence that’s inspiring.  The space around the painting was made specifically for the piece, to create an atmosphere that you’re part of the crowd in the painting. When I worked there, and we were slow, or not yet open, I’d split my time in front of it and sitting by the garden.  The head gardener, Stanley, would answer all my questions about what new plants were rotating in.  He was the nicest man.  He passed away this summer.

It’s actually my hand -- you wouldn’t believe the weird contortion I was in to film this :D I didn’t notice at the time, but I like how when I pause, and then just lift my fingers straight up, she’s CLEARLY DISGUSTED.

Sam, I'm not saying this needs to be part of the Foodieverse, but I'm also not not saying it.

I like the idea of just some random dude EVEN BIGGER THAN STEVE showing up and Steve being like “who....” and everyone else wigging out that a massive basketball player is trying to butter up Tony to get shares in Big Star Pizza.

How do you feel about powdered mustard or mustard seeds?

I like both! I have a tin of Coleman’s handy usually, and I’ve made my own mustard before from dry seeds. I do have some wholegrain mustard, but the kind that is JUST seeds sometimes needs a little help, it’s not very flavorful to have solid seeds, they gotta be cracked a bit.

I was all set to ask for a flex-head beater for Christmas, then went to the link you provided and... all the good reviews admitted they'd received compensation of some sort, and the non-compensated reviews talked about the silicon weeping goo and cracking, no matter how carefully hand-washed and immediately dried, or how seldom -- or often -- used. What are your experiences? How long have you had yours?

Oh, how interesting! I haven’t had either of those problems. I’ve used mine on a more or less weekly basis, mostly for cookie dough but also for a couple of quick breads and I think for mashed potatoes at one point. I usually leave it to soak for about an hour or two after use, then scrub it with a brush and leave it to dry on my drying mat. I haven’t noticed goo at any point, and it definitely has not cracked, but I’ve only had it about five weeks.  

I had a look at reviews on Amazon, not on the Kitchenaid site, and I did notice a lot of the people who are complaining about breakage there a) dishwash their beaters, which you’re not meant to do, and b) apparently don’t know how to adjust the mixer up and down so that the beater fits the bowl properly. If your beater is pressed too deep into the bowl then the fin definitely will crack just from the pressure. But it may also be that there’s a manufacture issue -- like my Mum was going to get me a second bowl for it, they have some nice glass ones, until she found out apparently the glass ones are prone to exploding.

Does it make a loud water trickling noise or is it a motor noise? I'm looking to get one for my kitten and wouldn't mind the first but not the second.. I was actually just looking at this one in a pet store too

Well, I am possibly Doing It Wrong so I’m going to try it again tonight, but it’s the water trickling noise. It’s just SO LOUD, like a faucet constantly running. But having a higher water level may fix that.

Sam, I really want to know what you think of the Wendigo sandwich. I made one, wasn't bad. Definitely not the "life changing experience" it was claimed to be.

Having googled wtf this is, I’m afraid I must decline :D I find pickles actively appalling (they taste like rancid butter to me) and I’m not much better on mayo, plus I have a peanut allergy. So for me that would just be an almond butter and bacon sandwich (which is nice, but not really in the spirit of the thing) or, if made traditionally, a wad of rancid butter flavor followed by extreme indigestion. :D

...What the fuck. I know I typed out a reply! It must have gotten deleted somehow. Uh, anyway, no thankfully I didn’t get sick from the beef -- I had cooked up some for me and some for them, and didn’t eat mine that evening, but the next day I opened their food dish in the fridge and the REEK of rotten beef was very evident. Poor babies just smelled it first.
