Mae (Kent) Day 2025: a guide

‘Mae Day’ is on December 15th every year. This is because League of Comic Geeks has December 15th, 1987 as the release/publication date for Mae Kent’s first appearance, Superman (1986) #16!

On Mae Day, people are encouraged to celebrate the anniversary of her creation by posting fanworks of her (art, stimboards, fics, edits, whatever else you’re inspired to do) and by reading/reviewing her comics (posting about what you’re reading is encouraged but not required!). Simply please tag your post with #mae day 2025.

My pinned post will be updated with this post, my list of voluntary prompt ideas if you need somewhere to get started, and a list of the posts from last year’s Mae Day. It’ll take me a little while to finish these, and the prompt ideas post will probably be continuously updated until the day of. I’ll link those things here as well once I’ve posted them, but since edits don’t carry on to past reblogs, I’m adding this disclaimer here so you’ll be sure to check my pinned post for those links.

It’s Mae Day!

This May, let’s all take time to acknowledge the sassy, classy cougar energy in all of us. Let’s carry the energy of being arrested multiple times for obscenity and making cheeky jokes on the courthouse steps.  Let’s carry the energy of physical largeness simply being another type of beauty. Let’s carry the energy of seeing nothing strange about middle-aged women being as sexual as they please (Mae was 39 when she made her first film and starred as a sex bomb who men could not resist when she was 85 FREAKING YEARS OLD!) (and yes, that movie is terrible, but not because it’s weird to have a slew of men still interested, just because the writing and the script were bad). Let’s carry the energy of being an open ally to the queer community, even if one is not a member. Let’s carry the energy of answering stupid, misogynistic questions with pithy retorts. Let’s carry the energy of deep voices in women being sexy.  Let’s carry the energy of loving something so much that even the idea of the thing you love becomes associated with you. Let’s carry the energy of not needing to compete with other people, because if they’re fabulous, that doesn’t take away from you. Let’s carry the energy of enjoying pleasure and not feeling ashamed of our pleasure.
