King Jinheung
I am the king of Silla, Jinheung
*watching hwarang*
me: mmh who should i ship Ahro with.... Sunwoo or Maekjong?
brain: ....... OR you could ship Sunwoo and Maekjong instead
me:
Omg hwarang, save yourself!
Hwarang never failed to surprise me with its never-ending mess. I skipped most of it tbh, i got no time to go through all those unnecessary angst, dramas and weak plots in each ep. Well, too bad my first sageuk drama is moon lovers, so ofc i would compare some little things with hwarang, espc. Sam Maekjong's character. He has that Wang So vibes a bit but not ALL. Maekjong is egoistic, talks with pride while So has been in a serious depression since young (Lee Junki said it himself) And yes, I'm now having that SLS thing. It's getting worse because Hyungsik got into his role so fine, screw me! But, even so, this is my first kdrama where I felt the main leads just dont.... go together well. I dont know what went wrong. They want to pull off the incest sort of thing into the romance but they failed big time (on me). You dont expect to just begin liking that guy (although you knew he's your long lost bro) because he treated you nice and friendly oh-so-happy. I know Ahro is constantly doubting him but still, omg! (I'm not surprised I'm rooting for Banryu and Sooyeon, instead.) It makes me feel so uncomfortable because I do have an elder brother who is not blood-related in some way with me (living in the same house). He treated me like a bro would to a lil sis, and these little things just made me wonder on how the hell Ahro could be liking Sunwoo as a man? They could enhance the writing for Ahro and Sunwoo's relationship the right way because I have seen it worked damn fine in "That Winter The Wind Blows". Not sure if you'd like this melodrama but the way the fake brother (Jo Insung) acted around his sister (Song Hye Kyo) felt like a stranger. When he tried to win her heart like a brother would, he had done them as if he was dating her, due to the fact that he's incapable to fake his real feelings towards a beautiful woman. But with Ahro and Sunwoo? They look good that way, full stop. Heck, they should better off stay as BFFs or smth. No one would know. Plus, chemistry is EVERYTHING these days. After going through ep 9 & 10, I was expecting for Ahro to actually decline Maekjong's confession directly, like "enough is enough because you do know I ignore you 24/7!" but she didnt. Ergh. So, I then hoped she would finally acknowledge the future king's feelings for her. By the looks of how her eyes soften towards him at that blocking-the-scorching-sun-with-my-manly-hand scene, but no she as hell didnt. She even straight up asked if her "brother" is eating well to Maekjong's face. (I cringed so hard, thats the stupidest question and thing to say after a guy confessed to you, ever!) SPOILER ALERT! CAUTION! SPOILER! In ep 10, she overheard that Maekjong is actually the future king. I get to feast my eyes on their little sweet moments, and how Maekjong became brighter and gentler around her. Idk what happened, but Ahro seemed approachable and closer to him after knowing he's the king. I dont like how she sort of gives him high hopes, though. Then, WOW. In the midst of endless hoping, that kiss happened. I gave up. Not going to torture myself with this. I like Hwarang because of the silly quirks and all. But, aside from that, there's nothing solid to elaborate regarding the story. Oh, I do love Hyorin's OST, though. I'm more invested into Maekjong's road to his throne, princess Sookmyung, the hwarang boys and for banryu to get together with sooyeon with sooho's constant argues. *Purely based on my opinions and observations, no hard feelings.*
