She loved when it rained. It was like the earth was cleansing herself of everything impure, something Neff wished she could do, too. She knows no matter how many times she stands out in the rain it’s not going to cleanse her of her sins.

And it most certainly wouldn’t do it for the current mafia boss that happened to find her. She’s no idea why he was there - but knowing him he just wanted to make sure she wasn’t trying to go anywhere.

Not like she could.

“Boss.” She speaks with acknowledgement. “Just wanted to be out in the rain for a bit is all.”

The moment someone’s hands made contact with her form, Scarlet’s heart rate SPIKED.  Lithe and frigid fingers move quickly to grab those which held her; a device which was clipped onto her pants just below her shirt began to beep and flash.  The underling’s attention immediately SNAPPED towards the figure.  Quickly she realized who it was, yet her expression still remained stoically emotionless.

❝ Ah... Boss, ❞  she said, IMMEDIATELY letting go of his hands.  Her voice was strangely monotone as she completely ignored everything which had just transpired, as well as the beeping which still continued while her heart rate slowly lowered back down to normal.  ❝ Do you require something of me? ❞

There’s a certain catch in her throat that happens every time Osamu Dazai speaks. A hitching of breath that almost feels like her whole body trying to still and fall silent, listening to what he has to say. 

Before, it was jealousy. A burning desire to know just what it was that made him so much better. She was right there. She was always right there. And yet? Her father, her own blood, always had her eyes on him. Dazai had to know, didn’t he? He had to see how she lived her entire life in his shadow. Somehow she always ended up in the shadows.

And now? It was something different. After all, there was no reason to be jealous anymore. 

But she was still searching for answers. How had they gotten here? Was this too a part of her father’s plan? And would it be different? That was the question she always came back to. Would anything really change? She was still waiting on her answer. 

“And where am I now, sir? Standing in the same room, but with a fresh coat of paint?”

20. My muse is temporarily blind.

❝ I am handing you the cane now, okay?  This used to be mine before I received more advanced visual aids; you can use it now. ❞  Upon that notice, the underling gently held his hand in her own, and pressed a folded up white cane into the palm of the Boss’s hand.  ❝ It is hollow on the inside with a cord connecting the two ends.  Uncurl your fingers while keeping the cane pinched between your thumb and palm in order to allow it to open to it’s full length.  This will allow you to be able to gently swing the cane in front of you back and forth towards the ground so that you may avoid obstacles.  There is also a loop at the top which you can put around your wrist to prevent yourself from dropping it. ❞

With that, they stood back up to their full height, gazing down at the man sat behind his desk.  This was rather UNFORTUNATE, suddenly losing one’s vision in their only remaining good eye.  Going from visually impaired but still having full vision in one eye to completely blind - especially in such a late age, though not quite old for such vision loss to be expected - would be quite DIFFICULT to adjust to.  Scarlet considered themself lucky; they hadn’t been declared legally blind until their late teens, but having lived in Yokohama for many years by this point, they had been able to memorize the layout of the city through pure muscle memory.  Having such extensive experience with being blind, they were truly sympathetic towards their boss, but they would not let that show.  Rather, they kept an air of professionalism, wishing to not let their walls down, but also they did not want him to think they were being looked down upon for this predicament.  

❝ Do not mistake my actions for pity; disability requires no pity, but rather accessibility.  That being said, should you need assistance, do not hesitate to contact me.  I am legally blind myself, so I can help when it comes to navigation and adjusting to your new lack of eyesight, as well as in regards to finding resources which can assist you even further beyond my own capabilities. ❞

The light, though faint as it hung over his head, still caused the Kryptonian into a wince, his body tightening for a moment before the bared heft of his pecs rolled on into a heavy sigh --------- not much of a help when senastions come into a rush; how the lights seemed to glare then with how his eyes were beginning to adapt. Head. Slight buzz. Nothing a rest couldn’t fix. Pain. Memory was just as quick of a flood like the how he forced his body into a tense as if to loosen the knots from what he had to endure earlier on. Magic: crappy bullshit—though one that really did him in when that surprise got sprung on him. Wracked at his body real good before the last thing in his mind was how the Hunter broke into a window and down into the action. How Hollis managed to haul his fat ass up in the hideout was beyond him --------- he just knew that he was in there when he could just feel the weight of that incoming strike was almost palpable like whenever Clark stared him down.

“—morning, honey…” Kai grunted, chest bouncing on though he was just as slow in the uptake to actually chuckle at his own joke. “ --------- for the record, the lipstick stain wasn’t my fault.”
