Episode 105, Total War. Did anyone else completely forget that Jon went to China?
"oh you speak chinese?"
"no why"
TMA What We Know -[105]- Total War
pre-statement:
-Jon's in China now
-now Jon can understand spoken Chinese outside of just reading statements. remember last time when Jon couldn't read the French wedding invitation, but could read the French statement? yeah no he just Knows Languages now
-this employee at the Chinese equivalent of The Magnus Institute previously offered Elias one of her own employees to fill the role of Archivist (<-capital 'A' Archivist), but Elias turned her down. she knows all about the role of Archivist and what should happen once someone fills it (<-ie Get spooky powers, Know all the languages etc etc)
--STATEMENT--
-guy's boat sinks, hard to tell which of his description of it are supernatural, which are metaphorical, and which are PTSD
-guy's haunted by all the people he killed and all the people who died
-guy gets kidnapped
-the dead haunt him so hard they kill off his kidnappers
-world's most Haunted Guy
post-statement:
-Jon's not satisfied with this one, it was a very Nothing statement
-"if I knew Mandarin or Cantonese maybe I could look here for more answers",,,, my GUY. you knew French. you KNOW you knew French. do you think the Eye is racist or something. do you think the Eye draws the line at translating languages that aren't written in latin characters.
-Gertrude had two files sent from China to America, Jon's going to search for them next
I swear tg MAG 105 “Total War” is one of my favourite season 3 episodes, there is something about the diaristic format of the statement, the way the way Charles Fleming gives the details, the way he talks about the reality of the situation both the actually rebellion and his metaphysical situation, the conversation Jon has with the Librarian where she begins speaking Mandarin and he just understands without realizing and she compliments Elias’ choices, like there is just something about it that I LOVE every time I listen to it! Like it’s just SUCH a good statement, and something about it as a follow-up to MAG 104 “Sneak Preview” and Tim giving the statement about Danny, like it’s just so good!
I don't really remember much about Total War except for two things:
-My fixation on diversified sister foundations to the Magnus Institute started here, and
-...Jon knows Chinese??? Oh no wait hol up it's just funky eye powers such a disappointment

this librarian asking jon if he speaks chinese and him fully understanding it but still saying no, okay you silly man
"I came for no cause but violence and greed, and have been humbled by the unimaginable brutality of true and total war. I have nothing left, except a hope that what remains of my own life is neither long, nor memorable."
I- fkdjkdkdlfjkdjdldkx
I am so normal about this statement.
Nesting instinct
Jon: (After reading the entire statement)This is all written in French. I don't speak French.
Total War
Xiaoling: (In Chinese) You speak Chinese? Jon: I don't, why? Also Jon: If only I spoke Mandarin or Cantonese...
This man.... is so clueless sometimes (most of the time)......
