TMA What We Know -[33]- Boatswain's Call
pre-statement:
-TIMMMMMMM!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉TIM TIM TIM TIM TIM TIM TIM TIM🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
-did you know. did you know I love Tim.
-can't believe Melanie got speaking lines before Tim. that doesn't sound right. that doesn't sound fair.
-Tim's pointing out inconsistencies and errors in the statement's dates. one of which I actually noticed earlier on and it stressed me out a totally normal amount <3 and one of you left a lovely comment reassuring me that it'll be resolved later <3 <3 <3 thank you I love you :)
-we actually get an in-universe explanation of why the statement numbers are Like That (<Gertrude's idea)
-Jon says we don't know what would happen (filing-wise) if more than one statement was given on the same day. <-we do know that Edwin's statement Part 2 just had -B at the end of the file number, so I assume it would be something similar, like putting a letter at the front of the statement (one statement could be 0262104 and the next could be A0262104)
-Elias gave the archives extra fire extinguishers
-Martin's asked Tim more than once to check if his (<-Martin's) tongue is infested. which I'm surprised the Martin/Tim shippers haven't absolutely latched on to. there are people who ship Martin and Tim aren't there?
-Jon is exceptionally adamant about not re-recording any tapes, which. now I gotta know what'll happen if he tries to have a statement he already had.
-ALSO I need to point out that out of all of Tim's complaints (which imply he listened to most, if not all, of the tapes), he NEVER complains about Jon's fun little commentary about his coworkers. He NEVER says 'hey Jon I heard you arguing with Sasha about how calliope is supposed to be pronounced. and then I hear you call Martin 12 slurs.' point is, Tim canonically finds the little banter and side-commentary fun.
--STATEMENT--
-picture me. sitting in 9th grade english class. we're about to start reading The Tempest. the english teacher says we should open to page 1 and look at the first word of dialogue. some poor soul says Boatswain. "BOATSWAIN??" she says, "IT'S PRONOUNCED BO-SUN!!"
now that you know my traumatic boatswain backstory, we may proceed:
-our statement giver got a job on The Tundra
-PETER LUKASSSSS
-she tries to talk to Peter. the bar they're in magically becomes empty.
-Peter hires her
-crew's Very Quiet and avoids eye contact (<- girl be nice they're just autistic)
-one guy specifically looks terrified
-thanks to My Excel Sheet My Beloved, I can point out that the guy on the Tundra who looks uniquely terrified (Sean Kelly) has the same surname as the guy who got eaten by the sky (Robert Kelly) (+ his parents, Moira and Stephen Kelly)
-all of the shipping containers are rusted in place, implying they aren't actually moving shipments from place to place
-she checks inside, all the containers are empty
-guy in charge gathers the whole crew, takes them to the lifeboat, Peter Lukas is there, and everyone gets into the lifeboat
-only guy missing from the lifeboat is Sean Kelly, leaving him all alone on The Tundra :( hey Sean. try not to get too lonely :(((
-guy in charge blows the special boatswain whistle. Big Fog shows up. people on the lifeboat start to cry.
-Big Fog clears, guy blows whistle again, everyone goes back to The Tundra.
-Sean Kelly is never seen again, and the crew starts talking talking to each other like normal
-she's paid Very Well after the job's over
post-statement:
-ship records show The Tundra's operating for Solace Shipping PLC, owned by Nathaniel Lukas
-Jon can't look into this further because Elias will get stressed if he sabotages the institute's funding
-Jon also can't find any records of any cargo being loaded/unloaded into it
-Sean Kelly was found dead
-Jon's 'gonna mention it to Elias', because why not. of course go to Elias. of course whenever you find a statement that's a bit spooky, you go straight to Elias and tell him it spooked you.
tim i would like to punch you
I am still listening to TMA, I’m just not posting about every episode anymore.
I would like to say, listening to an episode about The Lonely while taking a walk alone early in the morning(4-5am) is a fascinating experience.
Something about how the Eye’s always been there. About how Jon’s voice starts slow and monotone in the first season, when he still doubts these statements. Something about how, toward the middle of the statement, before the thing happens, he takes a breath where the victim took a breath, where their thoughts stumbled. About how he reads them and laughs when they do, and how his tone changes.
Something about how, in Mag 33, Tim was asking Jon why he classified things under the wrong date, someone’s name was wrong, something was cross-referenced wrong…he Knew all along, and had no idea he did.
Something about how he knew everything since the beginning, he read the statements as if they were his own stories, with fear and questions and scoffs and stutters. Something about how the Eye’s been in him since he worked above the basement.
Something about how Jon would read each statement and give what seemed to be an initial reaction to the content—shock, fear, ‘more spiders’— and then say “I had Martin look into this,” and then explain what they followed the case with, even though this seems to be the first time he’s read it. About how the Eye looked into every case, or set it before any of the gang and had them look into it before Jon could read it.
And now, something about how the computer voice fades. How Jon’s voice is still there, how he’s still real. How he’s real on his own terms, in computers still run by the Eye. How he can’t escape but he’s still listed as “unknown” on his Wiki page. Something about how Jon Simms is still out there and still being human through these wires.
Something about how the Eye’s known and loved Jon, and how the Eye still crinkles when someone tells a lie and how Jon’s still human enough in there to read these statements to everyone, listening or not.
MAG 66 “Held in Customs” review:
Mikaela Salesa!!! That’s the name I was expecting to hear in MAG 64! Anyways, wow three reviews in a row, I’ve been really into tma lately.
I don’t know if I’m claustrophobic, more so that I hate the inability to move. I don’t mind small spaces as long as I’m able to fidget a bit within them, but a crate like that would definitely make me quit the same day.
Also, Sims mentioned a name that I don’t remember but I think I do know the origin of. MAG 33, “Boatswain’s Call” had a relatively creepy Captain that had some supernatural deal. If it’s the same character, then that implies much more. (Wait a minute. MAG 33… now MAG 66…hmm…)
How interesting…Breekon and Hope have personally delivered to the archives before, and the people that owned the container in MAG 33 are also heavily involved in the Institute, to the point of ceasing their investigations; a ship with a captain that, if I’m right, deals with a prominent supernatural item smuggler. I wonder just how many secret deals are in place made by Magnus himself, attempting to collect as much as he can.
But what kind of monster was this? Obviously, I want to say that Vincent wasn’t kidnapped, that whatever he released from the box nabbed him and brought him back to consume. But…Sims mentions that he doesn’t believe the drug explanation, which means similar effects happened to previous buyers of Salesa. Was he kidnapped, or not? I’m not sure.
All in all, I give this episode an 8 shrinking boxes out of 10 concerned glances, would let illegal smuggling happen under my watch again.
Statement ends.
BIG fan of mag 33 where they call out all the plot holes in the series thus far lmao
makes me laugh
