because mages use power to make their spells to change the world illusion, and mechanics use their tools to make "spells" that change the world. also it kinda alludes to how when they work together, they're stronger than their parts, and gain the ability to change dematr

also it's funny imo. like 'haha yeah, my otp is powertools, hbu?'

Hi!!!! the day has come where I throw my pillars of reality fanart into the void :]

anyway, these are my Mari and Alain designs based on what I think would be cool (and also the vibes that I get from the books)

i wanted Mari to have some interesting facial features so she's actually fun to draw, so I gave her downturned eyes, a nose bump (what is the technical term there? please send help), and a lil bit of a cleft chin. personally I think my design for her is gorgeous and I'm a bit in love w her now. i didn't want to fall into the typical YA character with stereotypically attractive features, and I think I kinda succeeded?

for Alain, I made sure to include his scars and his,, good jawbone,?? (which is in fact the only physical description of him in the whole series that I can remember) to be fr w y'all I just made him look like how I wish I looked :/ so that's why he looks the way he does

anyway!! more to come in a few days, I'm working of some fullbody sketches of them currently >:)
