With it being holiday season I wanna remind everyone that the Christian commandment of honouring your mother and father does not and never has meant forcing yourself to interact with and play nice with abusers or people who harm your mental health.
If this commandment wasn't specifically about tolerating abuse from your elders they wouldn't have put it in The Book.
The Book Is Bad.
Find A New Book.
The commandment is not about that, its about loving your parents.

Ireland was never colonized by Rome and was Catholic before the Anglo-Normans or anyone else invaded. Catholicsm is a fundamental part of Irish culture and identity. You lack basic knowledge of this subject.
What never seems to get mentioned or acknowledged in these gottchas (of either the 'Bible bad' or 'I can do whatever I want to my kids' varieties) is that the nextāliterally the very next verse (Ephesians 6:4)āis "Parents, do not provoke [parorgizete: anger/degrade/demean/push the buttons of] your children, but bring them up in the discipline [paideia: training, correction, education] and instruction [nouthesia: verbal instruction/warning/admonition/encouragement] of the Lord."
The issue is not that scripture promotes or permits abuse and neglect, it's that abusive parents who try to justify themselves using religion see a big flashing "DON'T ABUSE YOUR KIDS, ASSHOLE" sign attached to the bit about children loving their parents and go
