Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic 240 Review
Things escalated really quickly. Judar’s appearance and hostility, revelation of the death of Gyokuen Ren aka Arba, Queen of the Kou Empire, and her murderer, Hakuryuu Ren.
Is Arba dead? No idea as little information of Al-Thamen has been revealed even though the Alma Torran Arc has just ended. For plot purposes, she might return chapters later.
Judar’s alliance with Hakuryuu has finally been revealed to the characters in this chapter. However, their goals remain a mystery. By looking at their respective tragic pasts, I had assumed that the alliance had been formed due to the common goal of defeating Gyokuen Ren and Al-Thamen. However, this might not be true as they are not with the rest of the characters who, too, share this goal. Moreover, Hakuryuu seems to be gearing up for a great civil war against his step siblings.
Hence, here is my new theory: both Judar and Hakuryuu wanted the downfall of Al-Thamen. Hakuryuu, especially, wanted to kill Gyokuen but was unable to do so. Judar thus offered his assistance but only under one condition: to wage war against the rest of the king vessels, probably for his own enjoyment. To prepare for a battle against Gyokuen Ren, Judar obtained the large amount of residual black rukh from the Magnostadt War. Thus, he gained access to the power of Ill Ilah (opening of the 3rd eye) and was able to defeat Arba the magi who is only able to wield the power of the black rukh, not Ill Ilah.
A few other incidents received my interest: Judar shrugging off Sinbad and the revelation that Kouen may have placed some kind of magic on Hakuryuu. Why so? Not sure as usual but I am sure answers will come.
Now that Judar is much more powerful, Hakuryuu definitely too, how will our heroes deal with them? Will the three countries put away their differences and cooperate? As usual, Magi’s plot is typically unpredictable. Thus, it is one of my favourite manga of all time. All hail Ohtaka-sensei! I am definitely hyped about the subsequent chapters.
IM JUST SITTING HERE LOLING OVER MAGI CAUSE ITS LIKE "OH LOOK LETS HAVE AN ENTIRE ARC SHOWCASING HOW EVIL AND TWISTED ARBA TURNED OUT TO BE"
AND THEN SHE GETS KILLED OFF IN A PAGE.
