What do you think are the odds of mystery chick being paired off with Hakuryuu? Since, considering society, it's unlikely that Magi will end up with any canon queer pairings. (sorry if this ask bores you due to the subject, i just feel like i'm having a harder time getting used to mystery girl than most people and hoping she doesn't eventually turn into nothing more than shipping fodder)
Unlikely. With our current knowledge of Mystery Chick? Highly unlikely, even.
While I really do not know why you would ask this of me of all people, don’t worry, you’re not a bother! I can’t refuse nice Magi asks, even if they ask me about something that’s not my specialty.Have a long-winded but hopefully more comprehensive answer under the cut.
My main reasons to doubt that something will develop between the two are these:
The girl is suspiciously mysterious.
She appeared suddenly and out of nowhere, with no foreshadowing, right after Judal left. Suspicious.Hakuryuu didn’t exactly react to that positively as it seems, even when she apparently offered to help him? Sure, he’s not the type to accept help at all, but he’s already given in to the one he refused the most, which was Judal. Suspicious. He actually even seemed unsettled by her appearance at this point, while she seemed upbeat, showing a strange unexpected power dynamic here - like she’s just waiting for him to fall into her trap maybe. Suspicious. It’s not unlikely to think she has ties to Al Sarmen, or even Arba or Falan who she shares some suspicious few details with. If any of these notions are true, the possibility of her and Hakuryuu hooking up are … extremely slim. Also, she’s masked. Yeah, she’s a ninja, sure, but wearing a mask means hiding your identity and regardless of her presumed profession, in context, still extremely suspicious. It’s just… the whole package she comes with seems very suspicious when put together, at least at present. She seems to follow her own party’s interests, and not Hakuryuu’s.
That alone wouldn’t make a good point though, so here’s my second one:
Romance doesn’t play a main role in Magi.
Boom, I dropped it. I may be biased and you may disagree but here’s my reasoning:Romance is weaved into Magi here and there on different levels (especially among some major characters, yes), but never on a top level. None of the major characters is clearly (much less solely) driven by romantic love. Heck, just a few of the minor ones are, or even HAVE/PURSUE a romantic relationship, and when they do it’s either happy/comic relief (Sharryamu, Toto and Olba) and/or an established fact (Wahid and Falan, Alibaba’s parents) and doesn’t drive them more than their other ambitions. The closest to this MIGHT be Sheba, but with a capital might because let’s face it: Sheba wasn’t just crushing on Solomon, Sheba’s story symbolizes the Rise and Fall of Alma Toran’s ideals on the whole. At least that’s how I see it.
Now consider HOW MANY characters Magi has, and how little romantic feelings among them. Even less crushes or actual couples. Even the hetero pairings are kept ambiguous, and I assume this is done purposely so.
Romance isn’t even the most common form of love shown in Magi - platonic ties like family, friendship and kinship are much more emphasized in Magi. ESPECIALLY mothers.
Also - while open queer relationships probably aren’t to be expected, I wouldn’t say they are impossible to exist at least in implication (I get this feeling sometimes about Sphintus and Titus for example). That’s not a lot, I know, but compared to the ambiguous hetero couples, it’s something.
So yeah, in conclusion, I don’t think it’s likely anything meaningful or even officially confirmed will develop between these two. If it does, it’s safe to assume that it will be either mostly just implied (one-sided? an afterthought? bickering?) and not the main reason behind the appearance of this girl. It was never true for any other Magi character, so I don’t see it happen in the future.
