I really wanna see more people explore the idea of Captain marvel having worshipers and cults in his name. People who worship the champion of magic and all his legends and power. Maybe they were made with the intent of control and malice, maybe with genuine faith but with flawed understandings, maybe they just need something to believe in, maybe it started in good faith until they started conflating what they wanted with what their champion would want
Honestly the idea of religion and faith in a world where your god is just casually standing right over there would be fascinating

The majority of any potential cult members for a group that worships the Champion would obviously have to be magic-users. Specifically ones with no moral code. I feel that after the debacle with Black Adam, a lot of magic users needed more reassurance that the next guy would be better. But having there be worshipers of the champion(the champion title itself,not just the hero Captain Marvel) means they don’t care all that much about what Adam did.
So…I’m gonna hazard a guess and say Billy wound be very uncomfortable with these randos in red and gold robes calling him their savior and telling him that if he ever decided on a whim to raze the Earth to ash, they’d be right with him. They’d also heavily clash with the rest of the magic community, who know how hard Billy’s been working to be trusted with his position. He’s not killing anything unless it has no sentience.
Without all of that, Billy is still a kid, overwhelmed with responsibility. So he would not take kindly to a group of people putting his word as law or whatever. The kid can barely decide what to eat in the morning.
With the last part of your ask it got me thinking, this cult would also HATE that Cap is part of the Justice League. He’s their all powerful god with limitless power. Why is he taking orders from an alien? A guy with simple human technology? An Amazonian princess? He’s the guardian of the universe’s magic reservoirs for Zeus’ sake!
They’re softening him. Making him less likely to show his full strength. Which, that puppy dog image that so many people associate with Cap is not one people would look at and think “yeah, this guy would totally want me committing war crimes”. So, they really wouldn’t have any fuel for their culty shit.
