magic-merrill Merrill tilted her head at him and nodded sympathetically. “Ooh, I know that feeling,” she replied, hopping off the last step with an exaggerated bounce. “I’m not entirely sure any of my friends would keep me around if they couldn’t laugh at me sometimes. Although, I suppose that’s just the nature of friendship, isn’t it? We all have to laugh at one another’s flaws or else someone who isn’t so, well, friendly will do it anyway.”
“I don’t know about that,” Alistair told her, frowning a little. She seemed so terribly nice, and sweet--he couldn’t imagine how anyone would find it in themselves to laugh at her, But then, he supposed, he wasn’t exactly the greatest when it came to initial judge of character. “I think friends should be there to support you, shore you up when you need it--not tearing you down, no matter how well-intended.”
