Each companion for that Dragon Age Inquisitor meme, question number 2!

I’m gonna try and answer these for both Ataashi and Acadaiya who are my main Inquisitors so this will probably be long!

Blackwall:2. What did they choose to do with him and how did they feel about their choice? Were they guilty about leaving him in cell, if they choose to do so?Ataashi: He firmly believed that Blackwall wanted to atone for his sins and wanted to give him a second chance. Ataashi believes in working to achieve forgiveness and right your wrongs instead of condemning someone. He tried to judge him without his own personal feelings getting in the way but he was definitely a little more distant from him after the event.

Acadaiya: This was honestly a very tough decision for her but she eventually freed Blackwall, if not somewhat begrudgingly. she felt incredibly betrayed by him but she needed his help and was willing to let him try and earn her trust back.

Solas:2. Did they agree with his opinions about spirits, that they were friends and trustworthy? If not, what did your inquisitor believe instead?Ataashi: He agreed with Solas and eagerly listened to his stories of the fade, thinking they were fascinating. Ataashi always liked spirits with the veil the way it was, he was eager to learn all he could about them.

Acadaiya: She had always been told to be wary of spirits from the Keeper so at first she definitely did not agree with him. Eventually she opened up to the idea that not all spirits are bad but she wouldn’t exactly think they were trustworthy.

Sera:2. Did your Inquisitor see Sera as troublesome or simply fun-loving? Did they join in for her pranks? Ataashi: Ataashi basically adopted Sera as a little sister. He knew she never meant any real harm with her pranks and often helped out with some innocent ones.

Acadaiya: At first she definitely thought of Sera as troublesome but as the stress of the Inquisition began to take its toll she appreciated having some lighthearted fun to take her mind off things and joined in more often than not.

Cole:2. What did your Inquisitor think of Cole’s ability to see into people’s thoughts? Ataashi: He thought it was amazing and was incredibly eager to help Cole make people feel better whenever possible. Cole was another companion that Ataashi basically adopted so he loved him dearly.Acadaiya: She thought it was interesting but it creeped her out a bit, especially when he read her mind. He did actually help her work through some issues though and for that she was thankful.

Iron Bull:2. How did your Inquisitor react to the Chargers? Did they utilize them as allies or leave them to Bull? Ataashi: Though he wasn’t the biggest fan of Iron Bull for the longest while, Ataashi always liked the chargers and often used their help. He also believed that Bull’s relationship with them was genuine and seeing the respect and admiration they all had for him softened his view of the Qunari. After the events of Trespasser he joins them as an unofficial member and loves the feeling of being part of a family of sorts.

Acadaiya: She respected the chargers and trained with them often. (Totally not because she had a crush on Krem, nope.) She liked how close knit they were as it reminded her of her clan so she often hung around with them for that familiar atmosphere.

Vivienne:2. Did your inquisitor view The Game as worthwhile or did they detest court intrigue? How did that affect their relationship with Vivienne?Ataashi: He didn’t really understand The Game all that well but he knew it was necessary so he looked to Vivienne to teach him how to properly play and be what the Inquisition needed in a leader. 

Acadaiya: She detested it entirely and wanted to go hide in the garden somewhere rather than deal with anyone at the winter palace. She wished she could be as at ease with it all as Vivienne but as it wasn’t happening any time soon, Vivienne often stepped in to help her out if she spotted Acadaiya looking like she was in pain as nobles asked her questions.

Varric:2. How did your Inquisitor feel about Varric’s situation with Bianca? Who did they decide was right about what Bianca did?Ataashi: He knew Bianca messed up but appreciated that she was trying to put things right, even if it was a bit late. As for their actual relationship he thought Varric deserved better but it wasn’t his business to make an issue out of it.

Acadaiya: She was furious. As far as she was concerned, Bianca was the reason that she had to leave her clan and become Inquisitor and she hated her for it. She was very vocal about the fact that she thought Varric could do better and that if it wasn’t for him, she’d be on the receiving end of a greatsword.

Dorian:2. How did your Inquisitor feel about the Necromancy specialization? Were they intrigued? Disgusted?Ataashi: He was a little grossed out but was still interested in the magical theory behind it. His shameless infatuation may have had something to do with his interest in the subject. He felt bad for the spirits though. 

Acadaiya: She thought it was incredibly interesting and useful on the battlefield. If someone was dead they weren’t using their body anymore so why not give it a purpose apart from rotting in the ground? She never could get used to the smell though. 

Cassandra:2. What was Cassandra’s role in the Inquisition to your Inquisitor? Was she a crucial friend/ally or an unnecessary soldier? Ataashi: Ataashi always thought Cassandra was an awe inspiring woman and had a huge amount of respect for her. He would always take her opinions very seriously when making a decision and the two are very good friends. I also headcanon that Ataashi was very open about the fact that he thought she was a fantastic woman and so his many compliments coupled with the fact that they bonded over their mutual love of trashy romance novels may have led to Cassandra having a bit of a crush on him.

Acadaiya: Acadaiya viewed Cassandra as one of the only shems that made sense in the Inquisition and greatly appreciated how straightforward she was and how little bullshit she took. Because of this the two struck up a fast and strong friendship and Acadaiya would always consider Cassandra her second in command as well as her best friend. Anything that effected one of them affected both of them.

For the 40 Questions for Fic Writers Meme.  Still taking questions if anyone else wants to play!

1) Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.

Slow burn, friends-to-lovers relationship.  Everyone has a lot of physical contact and it’s used to demonstrate the developing emotional intimacy of their relationship.  If it’s not poly then there is an implied poly relationship somewhere lurking in the background.  Probably rule 63.

3) Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

16) If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

It’s probably cheating to opt out of this question, but honestly?  There is no such pairing for me.  I’m interested in different facets of different characters and how that relates to a relationship dynamic, but as a general rule?  Once I’ve gotten that out of my system I’m onto the next shiny thing.  I’m incredibly polyfannish and I rarely have seriously-defined true OTPs even within fandoms that have staying power for me.  There’s some I like better than others, sure.  And there’s some pairings that I’ll keep coming back to in terms of reading, but for writing?  Nah.  Give me the next piece of shiny, please.

18) Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?

It depends?  Mostly no.  I  might have a vague outline, and sometimes I’ll write out how I figure the next several scenes will go just so I can then break those ideas and make them better, but largely I don’t tend to plot it out so much.  In fact, most of the times I’m using any kind of outline (usually more like a collection of scribbled notes in some kind of vague order) it’s because the fic is following a long or complicated canon storyline.  Or when I have to use maps and make sure the travel directions make sense.  (*cough* Dragon Age and Fallout *cough*)

Like, Cry Havoc I’ve done at least a couple of outlines for- promptly breaking them with merry glee, but at least I got the locations/travel times figured out and onto paper.  Everybody wants to be a cat, not so much- it’s not really “inside” canon timeline, at the moment, it’s in a bubble that’ll snap back to canon at some point but right now it doesn’t have to follow it too close.

35) Would you ever kill off a canon character?

You mean one that wasn’t already dead in some form in canon?  Probably not, no.  Any interest I have in exploring grief/mourning as a character trope is usually satisfied by canon writers being sadists, and then I usually go out of my way to fix said death when I’m done with the mourning piece.  It’s just not... my thing?  We have to deal with it in canon often enough, there’s no need for me to do it and it’s honestly just not that interesting for me.

1. Describe your comfort zone–a typical “you” fic.

300k + slow burn fic that’s 90% about developing the characters and their relationship and the actual plot is just kinda ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

dubcon or anything along the lines. none of that sex pollen / I’m in heat / fuck or die bullshit where one or more of the characters are dubious about it or scared or worried or just plain don’t want it. I don’t see the appeal?? at all?? “oh, yeah, well I mean, yes, technically this is in fact rape, but uhhhh, it’s not reeeeally rape!!”

yes it is. it is it is it is it IS and adding to the trope of “the sub / woman / bottom says they don’t want it but they REALLY SECRETLY DOOO” just gets me really heated and mad

I know this is coming close to kinkshaming and I don’t want to say anyone who likes that stuff is outright wrong or a rape apologist or anything like that, but I’m really sensitive about this type of stuff due to my own personal bad experiences, and I’m probably gonna side eye people who are all for dubcon until they show me that they do understand that consent is essential in real life. because you never know, and I’m not going to take a gamble on a person when the consequences of being wrong are so steep

15. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?

yikes I write so much sin, lol

probably Machine Mother. I tend to love whatever I’m writing currently the most, but I also really want to see Anna come to life. can I get the same woman who plays Brienne on GoT to play her? good casting for Anna is a MUST. over 35, very tall, thick and muscular, no makeup or touchups added, bonus for being flat out ugly in the face. and they can’t cut out the scene (that isn’t in the fic yet, it’s coming up) where Anna menstruates and it’s bloody and gross. or all of the parts where she’s very obviously Mentally Ill™ / autistic and has anger issues and isn’t nice or polite or social. or the parts where she clearly states she’s not interesting in being touched or on the receiving end of sex and doesn’t experience sexual attraction at all

actually, I take it back. I don’t fucking trust Hollywood. stay away from my Anna

16. If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

don’t do this to meeeee. don’t. pls. I’m begging u. my wife is starving. my crops are already dead. why would u put this evil on me??

Anna x happiness. yeah. I’m actually thinking about using her character for an original content novel that’s a murder mystery. but I’ll ship her with a prim & proper, gemini, vegetarian PTA mom named Helen. they hate each other at first but then realize it’s one of those Girl Crushes™ you don’t know how to process bc of heteronormativity and forcing women to be mean to each other, so you conclude that the only reason you care so much about this other woman and are so obsessed with her is because you must hate her. right? right??

no, u dorks. u wanna kiss. u wanna fight with ur lips!

so yeah. the pairing might change, because I also think she’d be a great fit for the sci-fi novel I wrote that had her most original, basic proto-type character that now seems really flat and one dimensional. but that’s actually where her character started! anyway. if I ever rewrite that novel to make it, as the critics say, “good,” I might put Anna back in there and have her become best friends with a male sub character who’s actually shockingly close to Deacon considering he’s my original character that I wrote two years before fallout 4 was released.

mainly I just want Anna to have a Friend™ and be happy

you know what happens when you live in a filthy abandoned mansion full of junk? you get mice, and if you get mice, you get cats. every single alley cat in hightown knows there’s a goddamn feast waiting for them at fenris’s place, and while he’s initially a little wtf about it, fenris gets very fond of his new friends. they’re more pleasant better company than the corpses and spiders when he gets lonely

✿ Sex headcanon

okay this is less a headcanon and more a what-if scenario but imagine if fenris pulled a kitty pryde and phased through the floor to the room below during sex with hawke. and leandra was chilling in the room below and a naked elf just falls through the ceiling?

…which would probably all be a little too traumatising for everyone involved, so lets imagine he only falls through the bed. he recovers, and after the initial scare, hawke is very proud of himself. 

♡ romantic headcanon

he’s initially reluctant to properly get into a relationship, for obvious reasons, but when he does? he full on unashamedly adores Hawke, and he doesn’t care who knows. none of that tsundere “wow affection is gross and embarrassing” crap

pda isn’t especially common with fenris, but he’s been known to get a little clingy when he’s tipsy with everyone in the hanged man. hawke is more than happy to let fenris drape himself all over him. he’s especially delighted when fenris deigns to sit in his lap like it’s a throne.

♦ quirks/hobbies headcanon

cards. it takes him a while to learn the rules and recognise all the cards properly (there’s a banter with varric basically saying he bluffed his way to a win even though he had no idea what his cards meant lmao u go babe), but when he gets the hang of it. he’s good. for a while he’s only a few steps behind the resident rogues, and, to the surprise of everyone?

is a dirty fucking cheater. his pokerface is so excellent and he’s so deadpan and serious when he’s playing that no one realises for ages.

they figured him out eventually though, and he doesn’t win nearly as much any more. he’s not that upset about it.

also, there’s a lute in his bedroom, which is adorable. i hc that learned a little when he was still a slave, and while he’s not as good as orana, he’s pretty decent at playing it and likes to use it to pass the time sometimes

fenris lives a long and happy life with his li of choice and has no negative effects from the lyrium whatsoever i refuse to believe otherwise

13: What’s your character’s preferred method of self-care?

Miri is a big fan of manicures and any sort of massage. She’s big on pampering herself (especially after a particularly difficult heist!) and will spend any amount of money to relax herself. Shaundi and Pierce join her most times, but Johnny has no idea what about that stuff draws them to it. He’s given up on asking.

14: When does your character feel truly at peace?

When she’s laying in bed with her girlfriend. There is no other place she’d rather be.

16: What’s one memory that your character will always be fond of?

Miri’s favorite memory is the day she broke Johnny out of prison and rescued Johnny at his trial. She’ll never forget the look on the judge’s face when she burst into the room to save her best friend.
