Rayla didn’t know what to expect. After sneaking around earlier, she’d found the places Callum was most likely to be after moonrise. Rayla checked all of them before coming to the high mage’s office and hoping she would finally be able to find him. As she made her way to the windowsill she kept thinking of him. Callum’s sweet, boyish face, his adorably fluffy hair, his piercing green eyes. She wanted to see him smile again. Rayla peeked in and saw a young man with his nose in a huge book, walking over to a huge mirror. He had a strong, lean build and was dressed like a mage, or so she thought based on human traditions, but she wasn’t quite sure. Rayla needed to see his face to be completely certain, but she could already hear her heart beating loudly in her chest. Then Stella jumped off her shoulder. Rayla made to grab the cuddle monkey before she could cause chaos, but Stella slipped away. But before she could do anything else about it, the young man said something.

“In darkness, gaze upon a fallen star.”

Rayla’s head snapped up at the sound of his voice, Callum’s voice, and in the mirror she saw those green eyes for the first time in two years.

It was him, it was really him. Rayla truly hadn’t known what to expect, but she should’ve known that the sweet boy she remembered would grow into a powerful young man like the one before her.

And she fell for him all over again. One moment was all it took.

YOU KILLED ME. YOU HAVE KILLED ME, DO YOU HEAR??

But the fact it’s canon that Rayla is immediately smitten with how handsome her mage is 😭 (yes, it’s canon, the first thing out of her mouth is “Ya look nice, Callum ☺️✨”)

Rayllum headcanon: Rayla always tells Callum she doesn’t want a birthday present because having him is enough, but he always gets her something really thoughtful.

She cries every time (Rayla is a crier, it’s canon). He’s just so sweet to her, and it melts her every time.

Angsty callback idea that’s been stuck in my head for the last few hours:

Rayllum gets Their Talk. The thing is, as we have seen, Rayla gets that she hurt Callum, but she does not understand the extent of it in the slightest. She’s utterly baffled by how angry, how hurt, how broken he is because she left to protect him. She doesn’t understand why, it makes no sense to her because she doesn’t think she’s worth that. Tears in her eyes, Rayla asks him why, and Callum just snaps. “BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, RAYLA!” And then quieter, “I really do.”

They both freeze at the familiarity of his words.

Oh my friend, you have NO IDEA how deeply I want this…. For them to be in the middle of their much-needed argument, the “Because I love you, Rayla!” spoken in anger (a contrast to the jubilation of the first time), followed by broken tears. “I really do…”

Rayla takes his face in her hands, tears streaming from her eyes as well. “I love you, too, Callum….”

And then they kiss.

Okay, so I’ve had this funny idea swirling around my head for a little while now, here it is:

Rayllum reunion goes more or less as seen in the trailer. She shows up, he gasps, etc. Then Callum, absolute drama queen that he is, faints on the spot. Rayla face palms or something because her sweet human is just so dumb. Stella hops off Rayla’s shoulder, crawls over to Callum, and just

AGDKWKWLFJWUWJFIEKWOFIEJE dying 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 But instead of a chameleon tongue she just screams that brain-shattering monkey shriek directly into his ear.

Hey, sorry, I know you just asked for fluff, but I’ve had a pretty angsty idea stuck in my head for a hot minute, so here it is. What if Rayla goes back to Katolis (empty handed in her search or not, you decide) to reunite with her found family. The guards let her into the castle, wary but unsurprised, which she finds a little odd considering how long ago she disappeared. She sees Callum in the courtyard and starts to get emotional from seeing him again, but stops in her tracks as she sees him pale in panic instead of reddening from anger like she expected. Then Callum turns and sprints through the castle, not responding to her calling his name or anything at all. He disappears into a room, and she skids to a stop at the door seeing him frantically looking through all his magical stuff in Viren’s old study muttering, “Where is it? Where is it?” Finally, he comes across a little pouch, and in all his haste to grab one of what’s inside, he sends some skittering across the floor. Rayla looks down to see moon opals then looks up to see Callum taking a deep breath, crushing an opal, drawing a rune, and whispering a spell. She feels magic wash over her and notices her body shimmering ever so slightly, but nothing else happens. Her confusion becomes forgotten when she hears Callum gasp, and she watches as he collapses into sobs while hugging himself and saying over and over again, “You’re real. You’re real this time.” Rayla feels her heart break yet again seeing him so distraught. She comforts him then they talk through some things. As soon as she feels like she can, Rayla asks what the moon magic was all about. Callum looks at the floor and in the dullest tone ever explains that he’s been tricked before. That illusions of her have been sent to him by lowly dark mages and other kingdoms’ high mages alike. The ones with little renown looking for reward money from a king and crown prince, and the other kingdoms (mostly Neolandia because Kasif) looking for revenge on Katolis for the disaster that was the Battle of the Storm Spire. What better way to get either than by making an illusion of the girl Prince Callum jumped off a cliff for and who subsequently vanished from his life? He figured it out fairly quickly and has since been asking LuJanne and other sympathetic moon mages for as many moon opals as possible both for learning moon magic and banishing illusions. Rayla does not know what to do with this information.

Oh my goodness, that’s absolutely heartbreaking! How awful for him the first time, his relief swept away by horror as he realizes this Rayla isn’t his.

(And I’ll never complain about Rayllum content! I wonder how many different version of their reunion we’ll all write before we finally know the truth).
