“Do you understand that we will never be the same again?”
she’s not really one for making new friends. she has bonnie and elena and stefan and that’s about all she needs, really. and with how things are going in mystic falls, it’s about all that she can handle as well. but the blonde looks so lost as she sits there. and she might not have the best reputation for being warm and fuzzy with new people, but she does know what hopelessness looks like when it’s staring her right in the face. caroline stares at the girl for a moment before she sighs, picking up her basket of fries and moving to slip into the chair across from her, setting the order of fries between them. “here.” she pushes the basket towards her a bit, “it helps. greasy food mends broken hearts, my mom taught me that.”

░░░░░░ ☾ panic is tough and terrible, and yet alice’s fear is nothing compared to the fright on lily’s face. “it’s alright.” lily whispers softly, gently, like a child trying to placate a lamb. the water of the bath is tinged red with blood. “you’re safe now.” she pushes stray strands of hair away from alice’s face. “you were in a fight. the others are coming back soon. frank will be here soon.” she adds, thinking it may help, even though she doesn’t know the first thing about frank besides him being the head boy in her second year.
“just stay still, okay ? i have to clean your wounds before we can fix you up.”

“Angelina!” Peter’s voice is somehow louder than all the chatter going on around him from his fellow peers, a few turning and giving him a confused look as he pushes past them. He almost didn’t make it to school this morning on account of missing his alarm, breathless and cheeks a shade of red from swinging, quite literally, his way to school. And, in all the business of getting out the door, he’d forgotten their lab report at home. He looked in his backpack for the binder before making his way to class, the realization making him feel as though his heart had stopped, realizing he’d left it on his desk at home. So, he follows after his lab partner, Angelina, to give her the bad news -- still huffing and puffing by the time he reaches her now, pausing as he glances toward her. “Did you -- possibly, finish the lab report?” Peter asks, his tone sheepish as he looks at her, “I might’ve -- well, I definitely forgot it at home,” he tells her, deciding being honest is better than lying his way out of it. “I know, I’m the worst lab partner. You can tell me that, it’s alright. I deserve it,” Peter adds, a small smile on his lips; he likes Angelina, from what he knows of her so far from being her biology lab partner with her.

disgust ran through him, anger flowing through his body like blood. it had been four months exactly since the war, && despite his family being on intense watch && everything in his life literally going to s h i t -- he found himself here, at daphne’s stupid party. why was he here? well, she begged. she begged in the sort of way that was almost pathetic, && he refused to let her make him feel like dirt for skipping her party. she was simply trying to move forward, something they all should be doing. but not him -- no, he couldn’t move on. the past events plagued him, weighed him down, weakened him in every which way. to be frank -- he wasn’t himself. standing alone, he watched as his friends && housemates mingled, internally, he was in agony -- though his exterior said otherwise. he seemed cool && collected, minding his own business. pale eyes skim over to the person beside him, noting they seemed equally uninterested in the party. with a sigh, he figured striking up conversation could make this a bit less unbearable. “ you’re daphne’s little sister, aren’t you? you seem quite bored for the hostess’s family. are the mini quiches not to your liking ?? ” his tone was rather dry, though he was joking with her -- well, at least he hoped it came across that way. he had been a bit numb lately to really partake in joke telling (( forgive him for being rusty )).

“all i have to say is that i love you, and i am really glad that you’re captain, but merlin - - - if you go as batty as oliver over matches and practices, i’m simply not going to make it.” her arm-guard strap is tricky, likes to get stuck, so she’s tugging on it now, half-distracted. “you remember what it was like falling asleep on the bench while oliver lectured us on strategy? if you start doing that now, i will start snoring loudly. every single time. so loudly that no one will hear anything you - - - “ the strap finally releases, and tosses the guard to the side with a huff of finally. “say.”

sharp blue gaze looks down at zatanna. he always worry about her, but this time, her words carry something lingering that causes him to pause and grow concerned. he shifts, step closer, eyebrows borrow close together. “we are not together anymore, luv, but that sounds awfully like a goodbye, zee. what’s wrong?“ and he reaches, never hesitant to touch and give comfort, his hands encircle her forearms with ease. “’ome one, pet. why must you speak like that?“

bruce doesn’t look at her. “you’re upset. i see that.” his hands fist on the dining chair. all she can see is his back, shoulders stiff, covered in a suit worth thousands of dollars. zee is slipping out from between his fingers, brows turned down in a dark look. he tries to find the right words - to tell her she shouldn’t be angry, or that he understands, or that she shouldn’t walk out the door.
i didn’t ask you to care about me, a bitter part of him says. a breath. “i’m not going to stop. i’m not going to give this up,” batman tells her. bruce might but bruce is inextricably connected, down to the bones. has been . . . for his whole life. he doesn’t know why zee doesn’t understand that; she’s known him this long.
