Checkers in the park was a daily activity for Joseph when he wasn’t working. With his age increasing, he was his general losing motor skills, resorting to a slow game of checkers in the park to pass the time, not that he minded really. The people he played with were just as old, and occasionally got a younger opponent. It was just nice to get out of the house and talk to someone.
Across the table of his current game, sat his dearest best friend, Avdol, playing against him. He had almost forgot what he was doing, staring off at the birds playing in a puddle off in the distance. Simple distractions were easy to come by at this age, sighing to himself when he would catch himself.
Avdol had just finished his turn, waiting for Joseph to snap back to reality, which he did, running a hand across his face, hand bumping against his glasses. His friend had chosen to take out one of his chips. He wasn’t going to admit defeat, but it was clear Avdol was winning.
“You’re a persistent one, aren’t ya?”
