This wasn’t Ash’s first rodeo. She knew how to take the blow and had no intention to fight. She took a deep breath at the stranger pinned her to the ground and made no attempt to move or escape.
“You have every right to do that,” she stated calmly, scanning the being holding her down, “Perhaps I would even do the same if I saw someone like me enter by territory, knowing of its borders, but I assure you, I wish only to speak. We are neighbors, of sorts. While I see you are not the sort to borrow a cup on sugar, I would like to have some sort of relationship, aside from general distrust.”
“...mm.” The being’s pale yellow eyes narrowed slightly, studying Ash’s face with intent. Whatever was found seemed to provide some reassurance. The being’s grip on each of her limbs loosened, and his weight became less crushing.
When no immediate attack was forthcoming he slowly drew back from her and stood. His wings flexed, shedding forest detritus from where they’d pressed against the ground. Gaze still wary and appraising, he offered a hand to help her stand. “I... was not aware there were folk living nearby, or I might have pursued introductions myself. Do you represent others, or just yourself?”
