Technical theatre questions 1 t/m 25. ^^ Too much, probably. I'm particularly interested in 1, 2, 3, 7, 10, 14, and 19. Still too much? I don't know, just answer which ones you want to answer. x
1. What area of technical theatre do you specialize in? I’m a stage manager! I’ve managed four shows in the past year and I love it.
2. Top 5 shows you’ve worked on and why? ooh top five shows. these aren’t going to be in any specific order at all
well the first show I worked on was the Giver (i ran spotlight) and that has to be one of my favorites because it was so deep and emotional and every night there was a different sort of energy in the theatre?
another would be schoolhouse rock live! jr. just because when I worked that I got to spend four weeks with thirty of the best kids in the world and the songs were just super fun.
'night mother was an amazing show to work on. one of the best parts was i didn't ask to work it. I was ASKED to work it. and they could have had anyone work it, an adult even, but I got to do it, and I was also asked to assistant direct
The Woman in Black (backstage crew) I didn’t have a lot to do, so i just read throughout most of act one, but when i did have to do things (make the door creak and move the rocking chair and uncover the nursery) i had to be super sneaky because all the actors were onstage and i had to stay hidden and i kinda felt super cool
finally i’ll have to say Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse because the director was one of my best friends and everything about the show was just adorable and fun and it was just a really great experience because although we got everything done, no one took it painfully seriously (because they were all under 12 years old)
3. What was the craziest thing you’ve witnessed while working? Hahahaaha oh god. I wouldn’t say this is just witnessed cuz I got directly involved, but once at the very beginning of a show, the local tornado sirens went off? We had to shove all of the children downstairs in the dressing rooms (40 kids, small dressing rooms). Then the power went out. With the audience (full house) still sitting in their seats. As stage manager I was running up and down and up and down trying to check on the kids and the audience and turn on the mic system to talk to the kids and the light board. The power went out three times, water started pouring in through the dressing room door, and a lot of the kids were afraid of storms. That was fun.
7. What is your ultimate career goal in the industry? Well since I’m first and foremost an actor, I wouldn’t say my career goal is even in this industry. However, I have thought about it, and if I don’t become an actor, I would LOVE to be a stage manager! Especially on touring productions, because then i get to tell everyone when they start screwing stuff up and i would get to travel!
10. How did you get into technical theatre? This is gonna sound kinda lame, but when I was 11, my mom was on the board of directors at the community theatre and they needed a crew person for The Giver, and so I volunteered and I’ve been doing it ever since.
14. What was the most complicated show you’ve worked on and why? The hardest was probably You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. I worked spotlight and I was 12. The cues were past and I was quite small for that big machine. what made it the hardest was that our spotlights are actually terrible? so they got way too hot. spot ops used gloves but I got burned through the gloves
19. Favorite books about technical theatre? I haven’t read any…. Oops. But I do enjoy the Rosolux color wheel if that counts?
thanks for the questions ^^
