Ch215; The "smoking room"
Even in the manga, it's in quotes, and that's something that makes me read deeper into it.
Our earl might assume the cigars are regular tobacco, but there could be opium smokers, too. Either way, he's been around it and probably figures he can tolerate it for a while.
But let's not forget how something wafting in the air at Sphere Music Hall on a "Sirius" day made him fall asleep/pass out, so blood could be taken without his knowledge or consent.
Since Sebastian is also being treated as a mere guest, and not as a servant of a guest, he might also accompany his master to this "smoking room", and I hope so... because Sebastian could shake off any effects of the drugs, unlike our earl. This would be a great parallel to Lucas and friends on Tanetane Island (Mother3), where Lucas and the other humans eat mushrooms 🍄 that make them hallucinate, while his loyal dog, Boney, doesn't partake, so Boney is the only one not affected by the drug.
Keeping with the Tanetane mushrooms idea, if our earl gets drugged and starts to hallucinate, this could be a really wild -- and scary!! -- ride for him. In the game, Lucas hallucinates all sorts of horrors...
...including one of his dead older twin saying the wrong twin died and that Lucas should switch places with him (Claus).
It might be a bit like the dream sequences during the green witch arc but much more twisted. In that dream, real Ciel says revenge wasn't necessary or expected. If our earl now takes a bad drug trip, it could be more like real Ciel telling him he's a failure, maybe even also suggesting the younger twin should have died instead. It could include Vincent telling him he was never meant to become his heir... or maybe Rachel saying she's going to spank his bottom black and blue. Soma and/or Agni blaming him for their suffering and Agni's death....
Whoever and whatever it is, it would be a twisted and particularly angry version of them or it. Lucas et al don't recover until some sense is literally knocked back into them... with a wooden plank or something... by a Magypsy.
In the manga, it's usually a reaper who steps in to provide the Magypsy parallel, though during the witch arc, it's Sebastian who fills the role by being 90% serious about eating his young master right then and there.
It is possible that they just gain some info and leave unscathed. But I'll honestly be surprised if nothing trippy happens in the "smoking room" or soon after.
And if it does get trippy... it should be very dark.
some magypsy doodles. dont @ me about inconsistent art style
Made this stupid edit from that one audio from tiktok i'm sorry idk where it came from
Not that it's ever been relevant to anyone's anything, but I've mentioned before that there was a really odd missed opportunity with Team Plasma's weird Seven Sages thing and how they have six of seven colors of the visible light spectrum accounted for, but then are awkwardly missing indigo, while Ghetsis makes a second green member... and also Ghetsis and N(atural Harmonia) have a musical theme yet the sages don't fit any kind of musical theme, you'd sort of expect a Diatonic scale since it's made up of 7 Modes...
But you know what iconic Nintendo JRPG DID have
a set of 7 mystical wise"men" type characters
themed after both the 7 color spectrum
and the 7 modes of the Diatonic scale
which was also missing an indigo member
and whose odd member out of the group serves as the game's villain?
(also who raised a weird orphan kid to be their protege and erroneously told them they were royalty?)
The Magypsies (named after the Gypsy scale) in MOTHER 3
(I will forever be mad that the Seven Sages of Team Plasma aren't wearing robes actually matching their color theme names... They aren't even shuffled around properly because the names account for Red Orange Yellow Green Blue (no indigo) and Violet, but then they're wearing Yellow, Indigo(?), Red, Black/Gray(?), Green, and Violet? No proper Blue or Orange???)
...Thinking about Mother 3, is it weird to say that I haven't actually seen any trans people I know offended by the Magypsies?
Again, this is personal experience and I'm totally willing to hear if I'm wrong, but pretty much all the trans people I've known are okay with them given they're generally benevolent* and helpful.
Doubly so given that, according to what I've heard, they're based on some of Itoi's older gay friends, and that affection shines through. Granted, there's one particularly awkward scene they'd agree should be changed**, but other than that I haven't seen any problems with 'em.
Weirdly, I feel like their name might be more of a problem for completely different reasons, given the whole "the-G-word-is-an-anti-Roma-slur" thing.
My suggestion for changing it by the by would be to the Magicans, to perhaps connect it to the Motherbound series' pre-existing idea of Magicant, given there's already a bit of evidence in the game linking them to it...
*Well, okay, except for one, but that's a special case and also a major spoiler, so shush.
**If you've played it, you know the one
Batshit insane theory:
What if the Magypsies are actually somehow descendents of Giegue's race?? That would explain why they're not human, and how they know PSI/PK in an age where it's almost entirely disappeared from humanity. After all, it originated from those aliens. Also in both MOTHER and Earthbound/MOTHER 2, yes Giegue is referred to as male, but in Earthbound an NPC questions if he's female as it's apparently hard to tell with alien life forms. And the Magypsies are explicitly not male or female, rather something in-between or something else entirely
Part one of Giving the Magypsies Dragonite Forms because I thought it would be cool if the Magypsies had the ability to use the Dragonite stone from earthbound
