Now when we move on to a Jupiter style of thinking and feeling, there the sound that can be used is the "o" sound. When we pronounce "o", it forms a circle; "o" embraces, "o" opens its arms and shares with others and celebrates with others in community. And so the "o" sound immediately puts us into a Jupiterian feeling and understanding or style of thinking or approach to life. But before we get into this style of thinking and approach to life further, we have to pause a moment and ask kind of a puzzling question. One which some of you may have already thought of and that is in describing the seven great paths or darshanas or styles of thinking and yogas that we've been talking about, we keep emphasizing seven but we forget that there are nine Beatitudes not seven. So what gives here? There are nine Beatitudes and yet only seven sheaths of the human being, seven aspects of personality and seven bodies. So what gives here? Are we going to have to force some sort of rationalization or compromise to make the two categories match?
Not at all because what we have to understand is that, when we study the constitution of the human being, there are really nine aspects to the human being, but of the nine, two form a union with two others and create seven. For anyone that wants a further explanation of this in some depth, although I'll run through it quickly for you, you can read Rudolf Steiner's book called Theosophy, page 31, where first he lists the nine aspects of the personality. First, physical body; second, the ether body; third, the soul body; fourth, the sentient soul; fifth, the intellectual soul; sixth, the consciousness soul; seventh, what he calls spirit self equals cosmic consciousness; eighth, life spirit equals God consciousness; and ninth, spirit man equals unity consciousness.
Now, what Steiner says is quite interesting. He says of those nine aspects of the human being, the soul body (third category) and sentient soul (fourth category) unite and form one body which we could call sentient soul body. And higher up, the sixth category, consciousness soul unites with spirit self, the seventh category, and forms spirit fill consciousness soul. So you end up with seven parts of the earthly human being -- one, the physical body; two, the etheric or life body; three, the sentient soul body; four, the intellectual soul; five, spirit-filled consciousness soul; six, life spirit; and seven, spirit man.
