The World Of Lore By Aaron Mahnke — Liam Theo's Review
What Is The World of Lore?
The world of Lore began simply as a podcast. Over the past 3 years, it has grown to so much more! Aaron Mahnke was a freelance graphic designer with a passion for history and horror. By combining the two and talking into a microphone, he built a huge following. Lore is a bi-weekly podcast, except for the month of October, then he usually will give listeners a little more. Last week he released episode number 100.
Every other week, Aaron tells a story from history that has a little more to it than we expect. Many times it involves the supernatural. You can hear historical stories from witches, like the Salem trials, to vampires and the devil himself. The adventures that Aaron takes you on can seem much more frightening, because they are true.

A simple podcast grew so much that it now has it’s own TV show on Amazon Prime! If that alone wasn’t enough, the creators of The Walking Dead are the ones involved with the Lore project as well. Many of the listeners favorite stories now have a visual telling to amplify the audio podcast they previously enjoyed. October 19th of 2018, season 2 hit Prime.
So far, I’d say Aaron should feel pretty accomplished, right? Well, add a three part book series to the list of successes as well. At the beginning of October this year, the third book of the Lore series was released. He was at New York City Comic Con signing books (one of my friends just so happened to buy all three and have all three signed while he was there).

My Review of The World of Lore
For years now, I had been wanting to set aside time to go forth and research the history of our encounters with the supernatural. I wasn’t really sure what books I should be reading and what my best sources were. On top of that, I hadn’t been able to find enough time to sit down and properly research what I wanted. When I was told about this podcast, I was extremely excited. It took me just under two weeks to listen to all 100 (plus a couple trick or treat episodes).
From the beginning, Aaron has done a very good job about telling the story. Many of the stories are kept entertaining enough to hold your attention. At the start, he was the only one working on the research, so the early episodes are all the more impressive. Since that time, he has brought on a few people to help him.
Like anyone trying to make a passion a way of life, the podcast does have advertisements. In the early episodes, they were a bit tougher to listen to because the very scripted ad was read quite robotically. For those just starting out, you can in all technicalities, skip the ads since they run at the end of the show after the story is completed. I would say that since Aaron has put so much time into this show, go ahead and listen to the ads. Chances are there will be something good for you to look in to. As he released more episodes, he became much more comfortable with the advertisements. Now, the ads are read along very smooth and even sound, sometimes, like a good friend is just recommending a product. The ads now run about 3/4 of the way through the episode, giving his sponsors more reason to actually pay for the ad time.
As this current point in time, I’ve only been able to watch a few of the episodes of the TV show and haven’t had the chance to read any of the books. The parts of the show that I have seen so far are done up very nice. It tells the story in a very documentary type but with effects like a fictional TV show. I hope to read the books at some point, but for now the opinion I can give on them is towards the design. Being a Graphic Designer myself, I have to say I really love the way that Aaron designed these books.
If you love history, the unexplainable, and the supernatural then you really must subscribe and listen to Lore. I gave just a small portion of information, for more visit theworldorlore.com or lorepodcast.com.

If you’re not aware, I have an online store! I recently found a service that will allow me to run many more of my designs and ideas I had for t-shirts and other merchandise. Take a look at a few of the items below and search the rest of the store for more!
