Starry False Solomon's-Seal Maianthemum stellatum Asparagaceae

"Flowers are set in an un-branched cluster (raceme) at the tip of the flowering stem. Racemes are 1.5–5 cm long and 6–15-flowered. Flowers are set at one per node along the flowering stem, on stalks (pedicles) 6–12 mm long" (Wikipedia).

In contrast, the similar looking False Solomon's Seal (Maianthemum racemosum) has "7 to 250 small flowers produced on a 10–15 cm panicle that has well-developed branches" (Wikipedia).

Ideal for growing in a sheltered location with protection from cold winds is the herbaceous perennial Maianthemum racemosum (treacleberry, feathery false lily of the valley, false Solomon's seal, Solomon's plume, Solomon's zigzag, false spikenard). This plant needs a humus-rich, lime-free, moist but well-drained soil in partial or deep shade.

Among all the Maianthemum species I have seen, this is the rarest one, saw it once only, in NW Yunnan's Shangri-La County, about 3000m.

The ancient bedrock that surrounds and underlies Hills Creek is in a constant state of change, as a soft layer of red shale steadily erodes underneath a harder layer of sandstone, eventually causing sections of sandstone to fracture, collapse and create waterfalls. The cool, damp environment of the Hills Creek gorge harbors a rich variety of life, including: Canada mayflower (Maianthemum canadense); early meadow rue (Thalictrum dioicum), whose male and female flowers are produced on separate plants; and two-leaf miterwort (Mitella diphylla), with its unusual flower structure, reminiscent of a bishop’s cap. The photos above were taken at the Falls of Hills Creek Scenic Area along the Highland Scenic Highway.

Been protecting this clump of Maianthemum canadense from the encroaching forget-me-nots in the garden and it's begun to pay off;

Not only has the clump multiplied in groundcover size in just a winter's time but are appearing to join the spring floral chorus with a louder voice ♥️
