Rangoli Release Party

ALL(MOST) Gallery Los Angeles July 28th, 2017

A breathtaking evening celebrating the release of “Rangoli” by Pavana Reddy aka @mazadohta.  This evening was what walking into a dream must feel like. A beautiful reading of selected pieces from ‘Rangoli’ by Pavana, along with guest DJs sets by MAIELI, SHIVA , and WU DU (not pictured) spinning all night long. The walls were covered with stunning art work done by Paula Andrea Placido. To say the least, the release party for ‘Rangoli’ was an evening of warmth, inspiration, and overwhelming love.

This XICANOXO video is so iconically Los Angeles - I love that Horsepowar made this video as a tribute to not just Chicano L.A. culture, but as a love letter to her Desi-Latinx relationship - that’s her boo driving her in the car. I see what you did there. 

“...in her new video for her track “XICANOXO” (portmanteau of Chicano and XOXO), HORSEPOWAR romanticizes a relationship between herself and a Mexican-American as she struts her stuff. But it’s not all for show as she explained to us via email:

“There has been a long kinship between Mexicans and Punjabis which started with the California Alien Land Act of 1913. With 50 shades of brown, ‘XICANOXO’ is about the relationship in modern day. We shot the video at the iconic location from Blood In Blood Out. You know what I mean jelly bean?” [mass appeal]
