So my friend just told me about a nifty browser extension called Mailvelope, which works with popular e-mail providers (like Gmail) and encrypts your e-mails using the relatively simple method described in this YouTube video. However, this method makes it hard for third parties to decode your e-mail should those messages be intercepted.

And we know the NSA is indeed intercepting people's e-mails. So why not do your best to keep your private communications private? The method isn't completely failsafe (it's a PGP, or "pretty good privacy", technique), but it can't hurt.
