Maimakterion is the 5th month of the Attic Calendar(A ritual calendar used by many HelPols), in 2025, Maimakterion begins sundown on November 21st in the Northern Hemisphere, it is named for Zeus Maimaktes, aka Zeus as the God of Storms, which feels pretty fitting to this Canadian! Here is a list of sacred days and festivals in Maimakterion: ♡Noumenia(Maimakterion 1) - Held at the beginning of every month with the New Moon. Selene, Zeus, Apollon, Hekate, Hestia and Hermes are honoured at this festival. ♡ Agathos Daimon(Maimakterion 2) - A festival held on the second of every month to honour Zeus, Hestia and the Agathos Daimon. ♡ Maimakteria(Maimakterion 16?) - Maimakteria was a festival held in honour of Zeus Maimaktes, as a way of praying for the God to be gentle come winter. ♡Pompaia(Maimakterion 10) - A festival held in honour of Zeus Meilikhios and Hermes, we don't know much about the Pompaia, except that it was likely a purification festival, it is very old, as even by the Classical period it's theorized to have lost much of it's original meaning. ♡Dikhomenia(Maimakterion 14) - A festival celebrated every month during the Full Moon, during which time we give honour to Selene as she reaches her peak. ♡Hekate's Deipnon(Maimakterion 30) - The last of the month festival, celebrated in honour of Hekate and her role as Guardian of the Restless Dead, is celebrated during the Dark Moon(The night of the month where the moon is completely invisible to our eyes) Blessed Noumenia ♡
Hermes being the god of merry, of gifts and riches, I think he's the perfect guide to join us in the period of Christmas, and so november - december is a good moment to remember the link Hermes shares with Hecate.
These modern associations are essentiel to me, because they come naturally in mind. Hermes cannot possibly, in regards to his associations, separated from a period of time honoring the dead, the fire (he's , according to some, connected to sparkling) and gifts of course !
Above all, he's - with Hestia, the Immortal most close to us...but a moving god.
Think about his joy discovering the turtle, he's the god of Wonder, the artist imbuing soul in the creation of wishes cards, a fly with winter birds. He's a perpetual Father Christmas, always moving, during the sacred Nights of winter, or everyday, above Space and Time. 🦜
