Bertie and Syrryl Lore Part 1

Alright! I have compiled here (with plenty of help from my boyfriend) the definitive story of Bertie and Syrryl. Part 1 covers events prior to the base game and the base game itself. Please note that this is simply our version of canon and we have changed and adapted certain things to our liking and to make the story flow a bit better. I hope you enjoy!

Pre Base Game: Syrryl is born to unknown parents. As a child, Syrryl shows interest in probability theory, which he puts into practice during Professor Prinn’s Prismatic Progeny Precollege Summer Camp. He attempts to create a device for perceiving possible alternate realities. Encouraged by his “lab partner” Shodd, the two break into Councilor Flaxx’s office in order to steal a prototype power device to charge Syrryl’s project. However, when the device summons an alternate version of Syrryl bent on ruling the world, Flaxx is forced to step in and stop the experiment. In exchange for not getting them in trouble, Flaxx takes possession of the Infinity Ball and lets Syrryl know he will be keeping an eye on him. Later Syrryl joins the College of Synergetics where he joins a krewe working on spatial teleportation. When their krewe leader, Varkk, sells them out to the Inquest, Syrryl chooses revenge over saving his fellow krewe mates and personally kills Varkk when he threatens the Arcane Council. Having lost his krewe and out of options, Syrryl takes Councilor Flaxx’s offer to join the Arcane Eye. Bertie is born in Rata Sum to a single mother. He is mostly raised by his older half brother Bronn. Bronn presents a radical social theory thesis and is laughed out of Rata Sum. He returns sometime later with a skritt army and lays siege to Metrica Province. A team of Arcane Eye agents, including a young Rakt and Syrryl, are dispatched to stop him. Bronn kills almost all of them and burns out Syrryl’s eye. In the aftermath, Flaxx implants a mini version of the Infinity Ball into Syrryl’s eye socket and begins training him as his personal assassin. Bertie has a rough childhood in the wake of his brother’s rebellion. He is heavily bullied due to his size and autism, being called “Golem” by many of his peers. He eventually attends the College of Dynamics and barely graduates and joins a small krewe, mostly as an extra pair of hands. Ends up discovering an aptitude for golemancy and does much of the development on the MIG.

Base Game: Bertie’s krewe competes in the Fifth Annual Snaff Prize. He uses his golemancy skills to help remove his krewemate from the MIG and gains Zojja’s attention. Bertie is awarded the Snaff Prize, becoming the Snaff Savant. Bertie’s first invention goes haywire and kills several people. He and Zojja investigate and discover that Councilor Haia is scheming to take out the Arcane Council and frame Bertie for the crime. Bertie and Zojja save the Council but Bertie’s dissolution with the Council’s callousness leads him to take some time away from Rata Sum. He decides to head to Caledon Forest to begin studying soft robotics and to search for his brother. Worried about Bertie teaming up with Bronn to take another shot at the Council, Flaxx sends Syrryl after Bertie. The two meet in Caledon with Syrryl claiming to be an alchemist studying with the Hylek. They keep “running into each other” as Syrryl tries to figure out if Bertie knows what he’s doing or not. They travel together up into Brisbane Wildlands, where they are attacked by Destroyers on the fringes of Skrittsburgh. Syrryl is injured and Bertie “borrows” one of his pistols, shooting his way out with Syrryl thrown over his shoulder. Bertie sends Syrryl to Mrot Boru to recover and continues on into Skrittsburgh. Bertie alerts Skrittsburgh to the Destroyer threat and teams up with Bronn to protect the town. The two reunite but Bertie is unwilling to accept Bronn’s nihilistic view of the asura as a people. Unbeknownst to Bertie, Syrryl has followed him into Skrittsburgh and is setting up to take Bronn out during the confrontation. However when Bertie interferes with the shot, Syrryl finds himself incapable of pulling the trigger and abandons the job. Feeling unable to reach his brother, Bertie returns home to Rata Sum. Eventually, knowing that he can’t avoid Flaxx forever, Syrryl returns to Rata Sum to face his wrath. However, on his way to Flaxx’s office he encounters Bertie on his way to hear noted magical scholar Professor Gorr speak about dragon magic. Bertie invites him along and Syrryl agrees, figuring it can’t hurt to prolong the inevitable. At the conference Bertie and Syrryl meet members of the three Orders of Tyria and hear Gorr’s initial theory that the dragons devour magic. Things take a turn for the suspicious when Gorr dies in an extremely convenient lab accident and the two are pulled into helping the Orders discover what really happened. Syrryl helps Agent Batanga break into Flaxx’s office (again) while Bertie and Krasso investigate Gorr’s lab. Putting the pieces together they realize that Gorr is being held at an Arcane Eye safe house in Garenhoff which they and Batanga break into in order to rescue him. The gang decides to hold a symposium to spread Gorr’s research. Unfortunately, Rakt and the Arcane Eye crash the party and set everything on fire. Bertie is able to rewire the golems into putting the fire out, while Syrryl goes after Rakt to put a stop to him for good. Bertie and the others catch up just in time to see Rakt reveal Syrryl’s connection to the Arcane Eye and for Syrryl to kill him. Confronting Flaxx, the High Councilor reveals that the Council has always known about Gorr’s research and have no interest in it other than to protect themselves. Angry at both the Council and Syrryl for their respective betrayals, Bertie vows to join the Priory in order to make sure other information about the dragons isn’t kept secret. Syrryl, knowing that he has just turned his back on the only home he's ever had, joins the Order of Whispers to put his skills to better use. Arriving in Lion’s Arch, Syrryl is directed to meet with his Order mentor: Tybalt Leftpaw. Their mission is to discover the whereabouts and possibly rescue Demmi Beetlestone, daughter of Cadecus Beetlestone, the Legate Minister of Kryta. After a series of misadventures including dressing up as pirates, getting drunk as pirates and running away from pirates while disguised as a woman, the pair are able to successfully get Demmi to the safety of the Order. During this time Demmi and Syrryl become friends and Tybalt begins to teach Syrryl to use a rifle. Tybalt and Syrryl remain stationed in Lion’s Arch for the time being. Meanwhile Bertie has wrapped up his personal affairs in Rata Sum in preparation to move to the Durmand Priory. He heads to Lion’s Arch with Zojja and meets the rest of Destiny’s Edge. The meeting does not go well and Bertie heads off to meet with Sieran, his Order mentor. Almost immediately after meeting her, they bump into Tybalt and Syrryl. Tybalt, delighted to meet a “friend” of Syrryl’s, invites Bertie and Sieran to drinks and they all hang out for a bit. Tybalt, realizing there’s history between the two asura, encourages Syrryl to take advantage of his current time off to join up with Bertie and Sieran and help out with their mission. Syrryl reluctantly agrees. Bertie, Syrryl and Sieran track down the Sanguinary Blade, an artifact related to Jormag, and defeat the Sons of Svanir that found it. The Priory sends Sieran north to continue researching Icebrood corruption. At a loss for what to do, Bertie decides to join Syrryl and Tybalt on a diplomatic mission to speak with the Hylek of Bloodtide Coast. Betie and Tybalt bond over being engineers and give each other some tips. During the mission, Bertie sees that Syrryl is more than just an assassin and does really care about helping other people. On their return to Lion’s Arch, Bertie receives a letter from Sieran asking him to come assist her in the quaggan village of Falooaloo. Syrryl joins them, again at Tybalt’s urging. Discovering the Icebrood threaten the villagers’ plan to evacuate, the trio track down an infamous quaggan fighter named Baroosh. Baroosh asks them to aid him in clearing a cave of Icebrood. However, when they arrive they discover the cave is full of quaggans who have just started to become corrupted. Bertie is desperate for a way to save them but it becomes apparent that the only option is a mercy kill. Seeing Bertie struggle with this, Syrryl steps in to help him and the two give the quaggans a quick and painless end. Regrouping at Falooaloo, the gang defends the village from an Icebrood attack. When Syrryl is thrown from the fight by an Icebrood kodan and disarmed, Bertie enters a state similar to the quaggan rage and uses the kodan’s own hammer to beat it to death. The evacuation of the village is successful and Bertie and Sieran go with the quaggans to ensure they travel safely. Bertie takes the opportunity to learn some fighting skills from Baroosh. Syrryl returns to the Chantry of Secrets to inform them of the growing threat of the dragons. Tybalt and Syrryl are put on monitoring the situation around Lion’s Arch which quickly becomes serious when a Priory researcher and a Whispers agent both go missing. The two encounter Bertie and Sieran who were asked to look into the vanished researcher on their way back to the Priory. Together the group discovers Zhaitan’s plans to invade Lion’s Arch and agree to warn the fort on Claw Island. At the fort their worries are dismissed by everyone except Orrian researcher and Sylvari Firstborn, Trahearne. The group’s fears prove true when the fort is attacked resulting in the death of the fort’s commander and the garrison’s retreat. To give the remaining soldiers enough time to escape, Tybalt and Sieran sacrifice themselves to hold off the Risen. But not before Tybalt tells Syrryl for him and Bertie to stick together and watch each others’ backs. Falling back to Lion’s Arch, the pair help lead the defense of the city. Realizing they’ll need more allies, they recruit Professor Gorr and Priory researches Barron and Fero to the cause. On Trahearne’s suggestion, they travel “to seek wisdom” from his mother, the Pale Tree. While talking to the Pale Tree, Syrryl receives a distress call from Demmi saying the Chantry of Secrets is under attack from Risen forces. The two rush to help and are able to repel the attack, thanks to a series of defenses Tybalt had created that Bertie is able to activate. With the Chantry safe they rejoin Trahearne and the other Order representatives who have some concerns about a scholar leading the charge to Orr. They are able to allay most of the fears except for General Almorra’s. In an effort to prove the fledgling group’s military abilities, Bertie challenges Almorra to a one on one fight which she accepts and is glad to lose. Worries assuaged, the army sets sail to retake Claw Island. After a vicious fight against Zhaitan’s Risen minions, the force is successful and Trahearne proposes the creation of a Pact of all three Orders to serve as an army against the dragons. He asks Bertie to be the commander of the Orrian campaign and Bertie agrees. Syrryl recovers Tybalt’s prosthetic arm from the ruin of the fort which Tybalt had left there for him to find. Needing a base of operations for the coming campaign, Trahearne recommends a ruin on the Orrian coast which Bertie takes charge of building into a usable fort which he names Fort Trinity. Syrryl meanwhile is tasked with helping sylvari wardens Tegwyn and Carys with the training of an all sylvari regiment of snipers, the Pale Reavers. With construction well underway, Bertie is summoned by Trahearne to Fort Concordia to deal with a problem that has arisen. Once there Bertie is once again forced to defend Trahearne’s leadership of the Pact and aids Trahearne in an attempted rescue mission of some Priory scholars. However, they are led into a trap and only the timely intervention of Syrryl and a contingent of the Pale Reavers saves the day. Returning to Fort Trinity, Bertie is introduced to one of the Pact’s foremost demolition experts, Tonn, and agrees to help him slow the Risen advance. The two bond quickly and start a tentative flirtation, much to Syrryl’s chagrin. This becomes cut short by Tonn’s death on a mission and Bertie feels further isolated by Ceera’s reaction. Following the Battle of Fort Trinity, the Pact advances into Orr where they soon come across their first immediate obstacle, a group of dragon minions who’s actions are empowering Zhaitan. Trahearne’s schemes to stop them, while ultimately effective, cause needless damage to the Pact and Syrryl begins to grow disillusioned with Bertie’s apparent support of Trahearne’s leadership. Things come to a head when Syrryl is abandoned to the Risen to cover Trahearne’s retreat on a mission. Though Trahearne tells Bertie that Syrryl perished, Syrryl’s unexpected return to camp proves otherwise leading to Bertie having a falling out with Trahearne. Taking a more active role as field commander, Bertie joins up with the Pale Reavers to help lead a Vigil tank column deeper into Orr. Though this ends in Tegwyn’s death, the push is ultimately successful bringing the Pact that much closer to Arah. Joined by a now reformed Destiny’s Edge, Syrryl and Bertie succeed in leading the Pact to victory and killing Zhaitan. And there was much rejoicing. Later during celebrations at Fort Trinity, Syrryl agrees to stick around with Bertie for the time being instead of returning to active work with the Order of Whispers. The two enjoy some much needed relaxation and watch Gixx break his back winning the Fort Trinity Limbo Contest.

Ares & Nike

In the beginning before demonic and angelic kingdoms was the Celestials. A unified utopia - or so the legends and myths say.

It was ruled by Kindred couple Namaah and Adnai, their lead their people from the Chimera Wilds and set up a new home in the untamed lands beyond. A place barren of beings and animals - a place made ready for Celestials. When Namaah and Adnai died they were defied as Mother and Father, their words taken as gospel. Their graces married to the land to keep their children safe and cared for.

When Namaah and Adnai grew old they chose 7 Oecrimi successors to split their power across the land. They did not want a monopoly and it was said as long as the kingdoms stood all would be fine.

They snubbed their own kin Aidon and Kore, ignoring the poverty and struggle they grew up in. Aidon and Kore were told they should be grateful for these experiences. A life spent in struggle would give them an appreciation for the finer things. It would bring them closer to The Zmei and Aeons that inhabited the stars.

The poverty and struggle gave Aidon and Kore no such feelings. When they found each other - orphaned and alone they found a mirror of their pain and fury.

In each other they found the faith to keep going. They would make the Celestials all bend to them and if not they'd break it all apart. Raze it all to the ground to build their birthright up again.

Kore's brother was horrified at her ambition, at her hatred of their aunt. He dedicated his life to stopping her, trying to prepare his descendents for her attacks.

He married into one of the families chosen by Namaah and Adnai to rule their children. He created alliances and soldiers to aid him against his sister. He held out hope Kore would see the error of her ways, that she would aid him against Aidon. That the holy warriors he had made would be lead by her - but she broke every hope he held for her. And every decade she remained dormant less and less of his kin believed in his mad words.

But Zohar will not give up, he will cling to this world for as long as it will take to save it from them.

Zohar & and his mate Azariah. Azariah's family was targeted and slaughtered by other Oecrimi who were furious they hadn't been chosen by Namaah and Adnai. Only her and her brother survived the massacre. She hoped to never seen any more violence in her lifetime - so the deaths of her sons hit her hard. Her eldest son massacred in an similarly eerie way to her own family nearly made her fade.

Aidon & Kore who in modern times go by various names. Their most recent are Ares & Nike, but they have human ones as well - Alexsander & Nikoletta. They don't just want to rule, they want to a peace that will never end - regardless of what others wish.

Snowed In (Closed)

Korvus awoke from his rather rough night of sleep. His memory cloudy for the most part. He could remember waking after hearing something above the hut, getting up to check it out, and that was it.

It was quiet in the hut, gently sitting up then standing he threw some more wood on the slowly dying fire, and got it going again, ushering in a new wave of warmth. Out of habit he walked to the front door to let in the morning sea breeze. Upon opening it all he saw was a white wall of snow, and could hear the muffled sounds of people waking up to the same situation.

He was surprised at how calm they went about it. Hearing slightly of having to clear the, food stores, stables, then the huts in order of severity.

“Huh, must’ve snowed harder than we realised last night.” He chuckled closing the door for what it was worth to keep in the heat. Though he was concerned for Ajax, the Great Jaggi didn’t cope well with being trapped inside small spaces.

“Hey darlin. Looks like we get at least a days break from travelling.”

Honestly, JJ/BA confuses the hell out of me sometimes, so I am just bopping around with Dio most of the time. Like, our canon tends to happen within season 1 so I’m glad you mentioned that. while we’re there, that outfit!!!! It’s good. My favourite is the burgundy coat, though (I have a gif of it on my blog hehe)

I mostly imagined my canon as Dio bothering the crap out of me because my family has some ancient rare something that grants the user some galaxy brain ability or something to that effect. The truth is, no one knows what it does, including my own ancestors. We just kept it because it was cool! But apparently, it’s been documented to do something cool like that. And he’s like “ok that’s epic I’m gonna take it but I need you to tell me where it is and get it for me” and I’m just like... “no? Who are you? Big scary guy??? Hello????” But I don’t have a choice, naturally. I’m such a little brat, too, even when I have full knowledge that he could rip me apart in under 30 seconds. The more time we spend together, though, he realizes that this little human creature is making him feel some things...... I’m way too tsundere to admit my own feelings, which I begin to feel, even through all the things he’s done (yes, a lot of it in front of me; but later on he tries to protect me just a little more)... and at some point, I really begin to feel helpless... I don’t think I’m ever going to escape him, so I might as well accept everything. But also, the strangeness I feel from knowing I could make someone like Dio care for someone like me... it is nice.

I don’t like to take my canon far outside of that (I just started S/C). The other parts I’ve seen are great, but I love the setting of S1 and everything gets 100000x more complicated. I’m gonna keep watching because I know he’s a big force in S2, but as far as my ship’s canon goes, it’s going to stay only within the first 8 gosh darn episodes of the entire series (I wish it was longer; I loved Jonathan a lot too). xD So it’s like nothing after that even happened as far as I’m concerned.
