Self-described “Taco Scout” Javier Cabral has partnered with Netflix to produce Las Crónicas del Taco, a six-part Spanish docu-series focusing on “tacos and the hardworking taqueros who make them.”  Each episode highlights a different type of taco, using the emblematic Mexican dish as a lens into the country’s culinary culture and history. And what’s more -- foodies will enjoy beautiful close-ups of juicy meat wrapped perfectly in golden tortillas.  You probably don’t want to watch this one hungry!

Latin music has taken over and the numbers are in to prove it. According to the VP of Industry Insights & Analytics for Nielsen Music, who kicked off the Billboard’s Latin Music Week, there has been a 41% increase in the streaming of Latin music from 2017 to 2018. Though this might not be a huge surprise since Latin music is everywhere, the numbers reinforce the genre’s mainstream presence.

On trend with everything Selena, Forever 21 launched a collection inspired by the artist: The White Rose. The line features clothes that both mimic her look and showcase her name and lyrics, so it’s no surprise that the items have sold out. Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, collection gone!

Foods that support brain health are emerging in the near future! Unique ingredients such as dandelion greens and jicama, referred to as Mexican yam in the US, are gaining popularity among health-conscious consumers. In fact, Jicama is predicted to be the next big superfood. While it may take time for the vegetable to gain mainstream popularity, Hispanics have long been enjoying it in its simplest form: peeled, cleaned and sliced, then sprinkled with salt, lime juice and of course, chili powder. Que rico!

We’ve heard several “Detroit is back” stories. But when we hear that a new generation of restaurateurs and distillers in the city are pushing Latino food further into the city’s scene… we’re really listening. The growing Mexican population of the city is changing the game and palates of Detroiters. This new generation is expanding menus of traditional dishes, creating food trends and new dishes like the hangover-curing coctel de camarones, mangonadas, or Dorilocos; bags of chips cut open and loaded with as many toppings as you can possibly fit – think mango chunks, cucumber and jícama slivers, peanuts, chamoy sauce, jalapeños, pickled pig’s skin, even gummy bears.
