I can’t breathe. My life is reduced to anticipation of a beep on the monitors. Lines reflect bedraggled heartbeats. The numbers leap into dangerous zones, then recede like a storm-swept tide.
I watch a man, once a fount of strength, fade into bleach-thinned pillows. I can’t sleep. When I close my eyes, he lurches forward with accusation, his thin frame trembles, and the…

Maintaining Composure (closed)

As usual Bruce was working in his lab. Since taking residence at Stark Tower he’d used the facilities Tony offered to start doing his work again. He’d had more than a few ideas that he’d jotted down in several notebooks over the years. Many of them were lost for various reasons, but he’d managed to keep the last one.
He’d have preferred to stay a scientist and never have another incident again, but he knew that his life wasn’t about getting what he wanted. So, he compromised. Most of the time he’d do his work and build all the things he hadn’t been able to, but when there was a need for the Other Guy then he’d let him out and make sure he was pointed in the right direction.
Bruce was working on his computer looking at various test results relating to some of his new invention while his assistant worked at his own desk across the room. When he heard the door open Bruce looked over. There weren't many people that had access to the floor his lab was on so he wasn't too surprised by the visit. He could guess what it was about. "Waldo, why don't you take your lunch then get things set up in the radiation lab?" he said.
His assistant looked up glanced at the visitor and nodded. "Sure thing, Doc," he said grabbing a couple of things. He put his headphones in and turn on his music player before tarting to step away from his desk. He stopped, grabbed his phone, then gave them both a nod before leaving.
"I'm guessing this isn't a social call," he said taking off his glasses and looking at Natasha. "Do you need my expertise for something or is this something you guys need the Other Guy for?" His tone was neutral and his lack of greeting wasn't any indication that he was irritated in any way. He just often forgot social customs. He'd worked with Waldo for over a month and the only thing he knew about the guy beyond his academic history and work credentials was that he liked polka music.
