MARCO- “So what was your mom and them saying about it?”

MAIRA- “Just that Emilio is upset and that he doesn’t want to quit school and get a job.”

MARCO- “Why would he have to quit school and get a job? Wait, letme get my notebook, I should write this down..”

MAIRA- “ Are you writing a book? Jennie is Jeanan Baker’s daughter! “

MARCO- “What does that mean. Please explain. And, now that you mention it, this could be good information to have when i do write a book, come on to my room, tell me everything you heard.” 

MAIRA- “You are really weird Marco Castro.”

MARCO- “You are not the first person that has told me that. Now come on, I don’t want you to forget anything.”

WATSONS~

Rahmi Watson came here from Oasis Springs with her husband Thomas, with a promise of a better life. But Thomas and her divorced. I wasn't sure the reasons until much later, but he and their oldest daughter, Raishda lived in San Myshuno now.

Her eldest, Imran took over working the farm and Rahmi’s preserves and canned foods became their livelihood. Imran met D’Andre Holland and once they became 18, D’Andre moved in with them to help on the farm as well.

The youngest, Maira and I became very close friends over the years. She was ALMOST as smart as I was!

Their home was right down the lane from ours, and Mama and Rahmi also became good friends.

When I got home from the Scout meeting, I kind of felt bad for thinking bad of my Mama and family...

SURPRIZE!!!!

LUCILE- “See and you thought we had forgotten about you!”

NACHA- “Not on the birthday you become a teenager!!  Happy Birthday Marco Rafael Castro!”

They invited Sean, Maira Luis, and even Jarvis Baker! Wonder how they are all going to feel now that I am a teenager and they are still kids!?

I had only lived here a few weeks and Maira Watson and I had already become good friends. She referred to us as “Besties” I hated that terminology. She knew everything about everyone and it was because of her that I began writing what would later be referred to as the Bagley Journal.

MAIRA- “You are not going to believe this, Marco! I overheard Mother and Imran talking to D’Andre about his younger brother. Emilio, You are NOT going to believe this!”

At this point I really did not know most of these people, only their names, but I loved the gossip and Maira loved sharing it.

MARCO- “Yeah, probably not, as I really don’t know him.”

MAIRA- “He is, I think seventeen, looks nothing like D’Andre or acts nothing like D’Andre. He is a big jock, and thinks he is hot, Which I will agree he is good looking but not all that. Anyway, he dates Jennie Baker, you met her right?”

MARCO- “Yeah her and her mother came over right after we moved in with an apple pie and Henford voter registration forms. So what did he do, get Jennie Baker pregnant?”

MAIRA- “HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT!!!?? No one knows, other than the families. You are good, especially not knowing anything about him.”

MARCO- “It was a guess. And it isn’t just the family that knows; you know, and your family knows. I am sure it will be all over town by tomorrow.”
