requested: yes! Can I request something about slow dancing with David to Lover by Taylor Swift in the living room because 🥺
“How was I supposed to know it would down pour on us?” David shouted over the sound of the loud rain.
“We’re in New York. You actually have to check the weather every day,” you giggled. You grabbed David’s hand and pulled him through the crowd to wave down a taxi. You slid into the cab, David following behind you, both of you drenched from the sudden rain.
The city traffic made the drive back to your place feel endless, but soon enough you were climbing out of the cab and standing in front of your apartment building. You took the stairs two at a time up to the fifth floor. You pushed the door open and kicked your shoes off. You grabbed dry towels from the linen closet and tossed one to David. You leaned over the kitchen sink to squeeze the water out from your hair.
The rain outside echoed off the metal fire escape, and the sky was gloomy from the dark gray clouds. On the ground below, you could see the brightly colored leaves that had fallen.
You changed into leggings and one of David’s sweatshirts.
“That’s the sweatshirt I was going to put on,” David frowned.
“You have others,” you shrugged.
“I won’t if you keep stealing them. You take a new one every time you fly out to LA to visit,” David groaned, and you rolled your eyes.
“What’s the point of having a boyfriend if you can’t steal his hoodies?” you teased, pushing past him and into the kitchen.
David leaned against the counter as you pulled out the ingredients to make brownies. He watched you separate the dry and wet ingredients and know all the measurements without looking at the box.
“Can you preheat the oven, babe?” you asked, glancing over your shoulder to see David nod. A couple moments later you saw a puzzled look cross his face. “What? You’ve never used an oven before?”
“I have Natalie for that!” he argued.
“God, I really am dating a dumbass,” you sighed, walking over to the oven to show David how to do it.
You returned to your bowl of ingredients and felt David wrap his arms around your waist and rest his chin on your shoulder. You whisked the batter together and knew better than to ask David to grease the pan when the batter was finished. You poured the brownie batter into a pan and popped them into the oven.
You boiled water to make a cup of tea since the autumn air was chilly and the hardwood floor was cold against your bare feet. David took two mugs out from the cabinet, a straightforward task he really couldn’t screw up.
David collapsed on the couch, since you wanted to clean while waiting for the water to boil and the brownies to cook. You connected your phone to your Bluetooth speaker and played some music. After a few songs, the chords to Lover by Taylor Swift echoed through your apartment and you pushed your coffee table towards the wall before pulling David up from his spot on the couch.
“Dance with me,” you insisted, stepping closer to him.
He wrapped his arms around your waist, and you rested yours on his shoulder. You looked up and smiled at him, the lyrics making you fall more in love with him. You quietly sang along, David humming as you both swayed to the music.
In that moment, it was just you, David, and the music.
The gloomy weather didn’t seem to matter, the screeching kettle didn’t faze you, and the chill in the air seemed to disappear. David’s warmth radiated against your cold skin. The aroma of cinnamon and freshly baked brownies flooded your apartment and mixed with the scent of David’s cologne you were smelling.
He took a step back from you and moved his hand to hold one of yours. He placed his other hand firmly on your lower back and guided you through a spin into a dip. You let out a small laugh as you stood up straight again. This time, you rested your head against his chest and his hands tightened on your waist, pulling you closer to him. You wanted to be always be this close to him.
“I love you,” David whispered. He kissed the top of your head and your heart melted.
“You’re my lover,” you giggled, quoting Taylor Swift. You tilted your head up and your lips met David’s for a soft and gentle kiss.
