I’m working on redesigning characters that I made up when I was around 8 years old! I’m hoping to finally bring this story to life.

This is a practice test to see whether a comic that I draw entirely in pencil will look good once scanned, and it passed the test! Disclaimer: Crystal is at least as tall as Rei. She's just laying further down on the bed so she can rest her head on Rei's chest.

Queen Crystal Maka. I had only drawn one picture of her when I was a kid, and she looked soooo bland. So I decided to draw her as an elegant, alluring beauty. I want everyone to bow at her feet. And I want her to be as sweet as can be. There’s definitely a bit of Clamp inspiration here. As well as Subaru from Dot Hack. I’m trying to look to things that I liked as a small child for inspiration for this story, since I want to be true to my initial 10-year-old vision.

Costen Maka (from my story, “Maka”)

He’s sooo cute! I had some difficulty in figuring out his new design. He looked so bland in the original comic that I drew when I was ten that it was hard to tell what I had wanted him to look like. I tried a few different aesthetics. Ones where he looked more mature. But he just didn’t look right next to the other main characters. So I decided to go with a cutesy style, and he looks much more cohesive next to Mimi and Ken now! He just looks so precious! I haven’t figured out his personality yet, but I’m sure it will come to me in time! In the original, he had a lot of moments where he swooned over Mimi in a way that reminded me of Brock from Pokémon, but… I don’t know if that’s the right direction for him now.

Some redesigns of characters from a comic I made when I was 10! I'm still tweaking them now. I already changed Costen's design since scanning this picture. You can see his new design in another post. I'm very happy with Mimi and Ken's designs. Their style is exactly what I imagine my child self had envisioned.

Working on a comic again! I’m not posting snippets of it yet, because nothing is set in stone, and I don’t want to lessen my enthusiasm to make it by telling people the details. But hopefully I’ll get it sorted out so I can let you guys see it soon enough.
