Piggybacking off of the posts about the costuming, would you say Mike's wardrobe throughout the show is coordinated with Will's rather than El's?
Are there some other costumes that stand out to you in that regard, whether as example of intertext or just a meaningful wardrobe choice?
Personally I love Mike's s4 shirt with a pocket that looks like an envelope or an arrow often pointing at Will. A pocket over Mike's heart no less, on the left side.
I'd love for you to talk more about the characters' wardrobes and what it says about their journeys. Not just wrt to byler, because the costume department obviously did an amazing job.
i genuinely believe personally and professionally mike’s wardrobe has always been visually and thematically aligned with will’s rather than el’s. not in a superficial “they’re wearing the same colours” way, but in the sense that their clothes participate in the same cinematic vocabulary. the costume department is doing narrative work, and mike and will are situated within the same aesthetic lineage: muted palettes, soft textures, nostalgic americana silhouettes. they look like they belong to the same emotional thesis.
el, by contrast, is consistently costumed in a way that marks her as constructed. her wardrobe is loud, synthetic, performative, she is dressed by the world, not by herself. and the one time she does visually echo will’s palette, when mike arrives in california, it’s glaringly intentional. she’s dressed in will coded colours and silhouettes, almost like she’s trying to inhabit the emotional space mike associates with safety and authenticity. it’s a visual attempt at alignment, and the fact that it doesn’t land only underscores how separate her aesthetic register is from mike’s.
meanwhile, mike’s clothes, especially from season 2 onward, reject el’s visual world entirely. will’s do too. they share a softness, a groundedness, a kind of emotional permeability that el’s wardrobe never attempts to inhabit. and yes, mike’s season 4 shirt with the envelope shaped pocket is a perfect example of costume as subtext: sitting over his heart, angled toward Will, functioning as a motif for unspoken communication, letters, confessions, withheld truths. the blocking repeatedly positions that pocket in will’s direction. that’s not accidental; that’s semiotic placement.
el’s California outfits are deliberately ill fitting, silhouettes that don’t suit her, colours that wash her out, patterns that feel like performance rather than identity. she’s trying to inhabit a life that doesn’t fit, and the wardrobe makes that legible. mike’s season 3 mall outfit is the inverse: the only time he visually aligns with el’s palette, and it reads as a costume within the diegesis, a performance of “boyfriend” rather than an expression of self.
taken together, the wardrobes function as character studies. mike’s clothes track his emotional honesty: the more he suppresses, the more washed out and directionless he becomes. will’s wardrobe is a time capsule, a refusal to move forward. el’s is a barometer of identity, shifting every season because she’s still searching for a self that feels authentic.
and the byler of it all isn’t about “matching outfits.” it’s about parallel visual languages. mike and will share colour stories, textures, silhouettes, and nostalgic motifs that place them in the same emotional register, even when the narrative tries to separate them. el’s wardrobe, by contrast, consistently belongs to a different visual genre, even when she tries on will’s palette, it reads as imitation rather than alignment.

It's so weird to see comments like this cos wdym. I saw some ppl complain that Remake Tifa is worse than og Tifa and I just can't take them seriously. Tifa has the most expansion and care in her character arc in Remake, her part in ToTP goes even deeper in her pain and trauma. How could you see all that and still come to this conclusion??? Do we even play the same game?
Remake takes away her pain and rage?
Like when she kicks the drone machine in the reactor cos she can't take any more lies from Shinra president?
Like when she can't even stand straight when she sees the destruction of sector 7?
Like when she blames everything on herself and Avalanche action for the plate fall?
Like when she falls apart in Cloud's arm cos Shinra takes away their everything again?
Like when she has to reveal her scar to Cloud just to prove her trauma is real?
Like when she has PTSD trigger in Nibelheim when she sees a corpse that resembles her father?
Like when she has to be reminded of that memory again in the temple and is about to lose it?
Like when she has to wake up in Midgard alone, acknowledge that everything she's known is gone?
Like when she feels ashamed of herself for being in debt?
Like when she finds out all the people that she's supposed to trust and rely on lied and abused her and cuts tie with them immediately?
Like that? Remake takes away her pain and rage like that?
I don't have any problem with ppl prefer her og self, but don't say her remake character arc is wishy washy or shit like this. Cos that just proves to me that you don't pay attention to her writing at all. Remake has many flaws, but Tifa is not one of them. She's in the top well written characters of the game. She literally won "Best character" by Famitsu ffs.
Im glad to see alot of people agreeing that WWE screwed over Carmelo. If they wanted to have trick get his mania spot, it would've made sense to keep melo as the united states champion and still book a feud between him and trick.
They have history together ever since NXT. The rivals goes back that far but no, WWE creative team decides to go with melo losing his title to Sami and then have Sami vs Trick at wrestlemania so Trick can have his mania moment.
WWE better make it a triple threat match and add Carmelo into the mix because thats wrong what they did to him.
rewatching frankenstein again and I do still like it, great movie, still visually stunning, but I think one of my main issues with it is that Elizabeth is a very poorly written character and it doesn't help that her first dialogue is del Toro's anti-war author tract (which yeah. war bad. but this is a bit of an anvil) that doesn't flow at all naturally from the conversation into which it is dropped
