Did you know that the fanart your using for your icon is actually of a male Ryder? thought you should know after spreading hate for bi jaal in the tag
To whom this may concern,
I’m not spreading hate darling. I’m simply stating that changing the sexuality of a character for the simple reason of pandering to the masses is wrong. Theres no integrity in that. No understanding. And it pisses me off that they think they can just stick the word gay or bi on it and assume they are being inclusive when the fact they had to ‘amend’ this in the first place shows just how much they are thinking about our community. Yes. OUR community.
I’m not in any way shape or form saying bisexuality is wrong. I am bisexual. I’m a woman who has been in a loving relationship with my female partner for the past three years. Never would I ever spread hate like that, and honestly I’m shocked you would assume such a thing about someone you don’t even know, my dear.
What gets me angry about changing Jaal’s sexuality was that he was written as a straight character.
For example, Dorian was created as a gay character. If, for some reason, everyone started saying that he should have been straight, or bi, anything different from what he was written as, and BioWare pandered to the masses and made him bi or straight, I know for sure you and I would be the first to object to it.
But because they made Jaal, who was straight, into a bisexual character, that is alright, no objections anywhere. Anyone who complains or voices their opinion against it is suddenly a homophobe.
Seems a bit double standard-ish to me.
One of my best friends, the person who got me interested in BioWare in the first place (ME and KOTOR where my introductions to the company in fact), is a gay man. He played through and romanced Jaal instead of Reyes when the update (1.08 or 1.09 I think) came out to see the difference and himself said that the romance still felt odd. Felt unusually forced. Had some nice moments he said but he couldn’t shake this feeling like all the did was replace the female pronouns and the name with male ones and changed up some of the animations. It felt like the just slapped it into the game to keep everyone happy, which is a very terrible thing for bisexual and homosexual players.
To be thought of last like that. I agree there should have been more male gay options. But slapping different pronouns on one romance felt very impersonal and honestly a little insulting.
If Jaal was meant to be a bisexual character they would have released him as a bi character. If you enjoy the new Jaal, power to you mates. But I myself will always find it to be, if anything a step back for BioWare.
And as for the picture, so the hell what? I’m not against fan art. I’m not against head cannons. I’m not going to change the picture since it’s a cute piece of art and my female Ryder is based off of that pic anyway. So why should I care if it’s meant to be a male or a female? It’s art. I can interpret it however I feel.
Bottom line is this, I have an opinion. You can disagree and hate me and block me all you want. But that’s not going to change the fact my opinion is not the same as yours. I don’t mind that you like Jaal as a bisexual character. Or that anyone does. All I’m saying is that I don’t like this annoying double standard people have about it being ok to change straight characters while to do the same with bi, lesbian or gay characters it would be considered wrong and insulting.
And honey, if you really cared and wanted to talk to be about your opinion you wouldn’t post that as an anonymous guest. Perhaps you were well intentioned but it does come off as very stand off-ish. And acting like that just isn’t the way to get your opinion across. And most importantly, that is no way to represent our community.
