Hopes? Dashed. Dreams? Shattered. Heart? Broken. Soul? Empty. You were numb. What else could go wrong?
You kept your head down as you mindlessly wondered through the base ignoring everyone you passed, the friendly hellos just met with a nod of acknowledgement or a murmured hum from your lips. Your head clouded with thoughts you couldn't shake, the constant lingering cloud of failure following you wherever you went, the self doubt about everything you've ever done clinging to you like the burden it always has been.
In your moment of self-loathing you didn't notice the individual in front of you. It was like walking into a brick wall, a harsh slap back to reality as your face collided with the chest of one unimpressed Lieutenant. You groaned and pulled yourself away to walk past him but was greeted with a swift grab to the collar of your shirt and pulled back.
"Oi, where ya' off ta' in a huff like that."
"I'm not an animal, don't fucking scruff me." You practically spat back at him as you twisted your shoulders to break from his grip. Unbeknownst to you in your little fit of squirming out of his grip, Simon was now eye level with you, his head tilted slightly and curious look in his eyes. His mask always hiding any emotions god forbid he was to show any.
"Fuckin'ell, s'wrong with you?" Simon's tone was slightly softer than usual but still carried that gravelly gruffness to it, his voice matching the grip on your shirt collar. It was firm but not harsh, enough to ground you a little and snap you out of your little pity party.
"S'nothing Simon, now if you would just let me go-"
"Let ya' go with a face like thunda' and an attitude to match? Ain't a chance in hell." He let out a low chuckle and curled his fingers into your collar more giving a little tug, testing the waters of how pissed you really were.
Your eyes snapped to meet his, a cold glare from you and nothing but...a genuine look of care and concern in return? How hard did you walk into Simon? You questioned internally if you'd mildly concussed yourself by walking into him. You were quickly pulled from your thoughts when he gently placed his hand on your shoulder.
"Ts' rude to ignore someone when they're talking to ya'. 'Specially when they want to know what's wrong." He scanned the area briefly and listened for any approaching footsteps. "C'mere..." he pulled you into a soft embrace, arms wrapped around your waist to hold you closer a complete contrast from his overall cold and stoic demeanour.
"Yer allowed to feel shitty, only human n' all that bollocks." His tone was soft almost husky and somewhat comforting.
You let out a soft sniffle and hugged him back tightly like he was your lifeline in that moment. "Thank you Simon...Appreciate it more than you know."
