Meet the Maker Week Day 6: Shop Small. 👉🏻⚪️⚪️⚪️⚪️⚪️🔴 . ALL 👏 OF 👏 THE 👏 MITTENS! 🧶 🧤 $20! PM for deets . Shopping small means you are supporting someone carving out their niche, doing what they want instead of doing what they should. It means being able to work on a flexible schedule to account for time lost, above all it means allowing them to pursuit their calling. . @tangledwebknits is having a sale at the Bronx Park Community Centre, I am super proud of them! Making and providing warm for our coooooool winters. . #makersgonnamake #meethemakerweek #meetthemakerweek2019 #makesplain #makesplaining #makesplainer #skinthsolutions #howitsmade #smallbusinesssaturday #shoplocal #shopsmallbusiness #manitoba #winnipeg #manitobamade #madeincanada (at Winnipeg, Manitoba) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5xuhYJgwn-/?igshid=1lkad748a33h3
Meet the Maker Week Day 5: Help! 👉🏻⚪️⚪️⚪️⚪️🔴⚪️ . What should I make next? Is there anything you’ve thought about? I am running out of juice trying to predict what others want and need your help! . #makersgonnamake #meethemakerweek #meetthemakerweek2019 #makesplain #makesplaining #makesplainer #skinthsolutions #howitsmade https://www.instagram.com/p/B5u_v_iglDi/?igshid=1gej5r6fp46yd
Meet the Maker Week Day 4 : Where else? 👉🏻⚪️⚪️⚪️🔴⚪️⚪️ . This year I am taking part in the North Forge Holiday party sale. North Forge (formerly Assentworks) has been a pivotal resource for me. Nearly since it’s inception, North Forge has allowed me to play with toys that I otherwise would not be able to afford. In turn, I brought a lot of my skills back to the community at large there, training and helping those who needed it. . This sale will take place on Thursday, December 11 at the U of Manitoba Smart Park, where North Forge’s business incubator offices are. Not to be mistaken with the Fab Lab which is located in the Exchange. . This is a great place to debut my new leather working logo. The needle, thread, and scissors are pretty self explanatory, however the cube is representative of a gold brick. The arrow represents accuracy, precision and speed and the three lines below the skull are my tendency to #makesplain what I am doing in terms of materials (which is nicely drawn as a roll of stock). . #makersgonnamake #meethemakerweek #meetthemakerweek2019 #makesplain #makesplaining #makesplainer #skinthsolutions #howitsmade #sewing #cordura #origami #textile #folding https://www.instagram.com/p/B5tIcUfAm3o/?igshid=rfegzyld379v
Meet the Maker Week Day 3 : Behind the Scenes 👉🏻⚪️⚪️🔴⚪️⚪️⚪️ . @skinthsolutions has been a mainstay in my life coming up on close to 10 years now. In that time, I am still learning new things. Today, in this Behind the Scenes…or rather How It’s Made kind of video, I revisit an old video where I make a L-Shield, one of my most successful and most ordered products. Things have changed slightly, but it’s more a matter of making things go faster rather than differently. . Mid video, you’ll see how origami has influence my work, compressing and hiding seams where I can. . Hope you enjoy! *please excuse the messy shop in the background* #makersgonnamake #meethemakerweek #meetthemakerweek2019 #makesplain #makesplaining #makesplainer #skinthsolutions #howitsmade #sewing #cordura #origami #textile #folding https://www.instagram.com/p/B5qHZfCAm0W/?igshid=1kq3r3zx917j1

#Makevember Day 30: Makesplaining In this last Makevember post, I end with something I made up and something I made better. I hope this catches on as in my cursory Google-fu exercise didn’t come up with this term: #Makesplaining. I define it as: ∙ Make (thing, object, idea, concept, etc) clear to someone by describing it in intense detail or revealing relevant and irrelevant processes, facts and pre or post-rationalization. ∙ On to the actual object I made better, it’s a pretty mundane one. I started ’19 Makevember by improving my interaction with my mallet that I use on the daily. As much as I use my mallet, I use my scissors EVEN more. I pick up and put them down at least 200 times a day. I have gone through 3-4 pairs of these Olfa scissors, mostly because the pivot has worn out and they become loose. I would peen down the pivot to tighten them up but eventually they would just stop working. I finally torn one apart and replaced the pivot with some M3 hardware that I can adjust and tighten as needed, making them the best scissors ever. My next challenge is to remake the handles in something a little better than the plastic. ∙ When posting these kinds of month long maker challenges, I have no idea who is reading or if anyone is reading at all. I have never been a journal person but I have always been an over-explainer of things especially when it comes to the manufacture of objects. I feel it gives the object way more gravitas if the root of the skill is explained and the history behind some of the materials. I love makesplaining, as I haughtily put it, telling stories through craft one object at a time. #makesplaining #makersgonnamake #madeupwords #endofanera #thanksforhangingout #seeyounextyear #makevember2019 https://www.instagram.com/p/B5f5PL8AbYA/?igshid=1tz571xp86edm
