Final design thoughts
For this project we were tasked to make a new creative way to help with sustainability and become a bit more eco friendly or redesign something that already exists and make it better in both physical and marketing designs.
For this project I went over many different ideas and took into consideration things from my personal life that I didn't like when it came to packaging. I personally am extremely eco conscious and there isn't very much i don't either recycle or reuse, having NO single use items in my household ((with a few exceptions, i'm only human)). So finding things that I could actually improve was a challenge and I was pretty excited for the task. I was inspired to redesign the Too Faced makeup brands Natural Eyes palette because it's two separate boxes , thankfully i use the box to hold my hot glue but i'm sure most people just throw this away, which is a real shame. Too Faced has some of the prettiest boxes and packaging i've ever seen and i really don't like just recycling it and so i thought maybe i could use how pretty it is and reuse it somehow, i immediately thought about how when i moved into a new apartment i had to buy a whole makeup stand, so i took this idea and decided to make a makeup box turn into a place for brushes and pallets to go.
The package itself pulls out the bottom and unfolds to make a stand using small key holes that in a real product would punch out and the waste of it being the size of less than a fingernail.
When prototyping all went very well and I quickly came up with an efficient design. I did however run into MANY issues when it came to the physical designing of the product. I designed how I would ideally want the box and i think that would work well but in real life i had to paint the box since I didn't have the cardboard id wanted ideally. Instead i had to fish stuff from the recycling bin. When I painted the boxes the paint made i so it didn't fit AS perfect as it had before painting which really was frustrating. The cardboard also being corrugated means that there is strange holes that paint couldn't get into and overall i am not the most happy with the paint job but the actual idea i am very pleased with and i think that if it where a real product design many people who love makeup would adore this and appreciate the extra storage for there brushes.
