Retrollect Disc of The Week: Fresh Italian Sauce
Retrollect Disc of The Week
Disc Title: Fresh Italian Sauce

This week, we’re featuring the disc, Fresh Italian Sauce. This disc really shows off how well Retrollect can be used to share an entire experience. It’s always tricky to show off an activity with a single picture, of course, and this disc proves the point. Turning tomatoes into fresh Italian spaghetti sauce has never looked so fun!
Created by user Mess9411, Fresh Italian Sauce features eight rich and beautiful images showcasing all the necessary steps of turning fresh tomatoes into fresh tomato sauce for your pasta or pizza. In this disc’s case, however, they used their new sauce on some pasta.
It all starts with six cases of tomatoes—still in the boxes that they had been packed in. Next step? All the tomatoes are unboxed and cleaned on the kitchen table with the whole family there to help, naturally. Now it’s time to stew those tomatoes. I can’t be sure of exactly what extra ingredients Mess9411 has added to the tomato stew at this point, but there definitely are a number of fresh items like green chives, onions, and other spices mixed in.
After stewing for an appropriate amount of time (pro tip: finding a recipe right now might be a good idea if you’re actually interested in making fresh Italian sauce), the whole batch of now-stewed tomatoes is dumped into a tomato strainer. After running the tomatoes through the strainer, you’re left with two products: the fresh sauce that you’re actually after and a lot of tomato innards and skins that you’ll probably want to toss.
When your tomato strainer’s collection bucket is filled with an ample amount of fresh tomato sauce, it’s canning time. (I’ve never made fresh tomato sauce myself, but I’m pretty sure that if I did, canning time would be the highlight of the entire process.) Once you have all your sauce canned, you’ll want to start refrigerating some, passing some out to friends, family and neighbors, and saving at least one whole can for tonight’s pasta that you’ll undoubtedly be enjoying later.
