Author’s Note: This is for the anon that asked for some Mal/Reader/Ben. I know you asked for a one shot and I am writing it but I just wanted to write something quick for this relationship so I threw together some headcanons. Hopefully, you enjoy this too!
This was something new for everybody and it took some time for everyone to adjust to it
You and Mal were dating before coming to Auradon so Ben would sometimes feel left out when you guys would talk about things that happened on the Isle or reference past inside jokes since it was before he came in
Mal had to get used to the idea of sharing you with Ben. While she liked Ben and had been the one to talk to you about entering a relationship with him, she wasn’t used to not having a hundred percent of your attention
But you guys would talk about it with one another since communication is very important to have a healthy polyamorous relationship
But once all the kinks were worked out, the relationship really blossomed
After becoming king, dates were harder to schedule with Ben
He had so much paperwork to do which meant he would leave the bedroom you all shared early and come back really late
So there were many times where you guys had ‘work dates.’ You and Mal would come over to help him with the workload where you all would make small talk while signing papers
Afterward when you all took a break, Ben would call a servant for some tea and small pastries so you could eat something light before diving back into work
But the paperwork would be finished quicker which meant for time some evening dates so win-win
Because of how much work he would have, Ben would encourage you and Mal to go out without him and when you did, you always bring him something. Whether it be a doggy bag from whatever restaurant you guys went to or some small trinket, you wanted to make sure that he knew that you guys missed him
Ben loves spoiling you both!!
Though you have told him that he doesn’t have to as you guys are with him because of him and not his status, he still does it
If he ever has to go to other kingdoms for his kingly duties, he always brings something back such as accessories, some new art supplies for Mal, or something regarding your interest
Also only the best for his girls! He will always splurge on you guys, nothing is too expensive. The latest model, the most expensive option, etc.
Though Ben has taken you to some amazing places for dates, your favorite is the Enchanted Lake. It was the place where your guys' first date took place so it holds a special place
Ben goes all out for your guys’ birthday. On the Isle, birthdays weren’t really celebrated since it wasn’t like there was a supply store on the Isle. At most people got a stolen gift and a few nice words so when he hears about this, Ben wants to make sure you have a day where you’re celebrated.
Though mostly everyone has accepted your relationship, there still some who don’t
When you guys began dating, it was the worst
So many Auradonians were convinced that you two still had him under a love potion and would go up to him to try to “snap him out of it”
Reporters would go up to the three of you and ask all kinds of horrible questions
It didn’t stop until Ben had to make an announcement to the kingdom to stop which showed how serious the relationship was
It stopped but once in a blue moon, a stray reporter comes but they just end up getting ignored
PDA isn’t really your guys' thing. Yea, you might give each other small pecks in public and hold hands but it doesn’t really go further than that. After all Ben is the king and there’s a standard he has to uphold.
In the end, this relationship is wonderful. It’s nice to have someone who brings out the best in you and that’s what each one of you does to the other. This is obviously different from the relationship you and Mal had at the beginning but it’s better. And everyone lived happily ever after
