Hand of Fate 2 devs really put together all my favourite character tropes when they were making this guy
Also there are some good dude characters I guess who I end up loving despite whatever their starting flaws are. (the vampire is oddly cute even though he’s pretty unapologetic about eating people. The goblin child is endearingly... a CHILD even though it would be easy to do the old Annoying Child thing. And he is definitely problem-prone. The broody Northerner has a very interesting arc that gives insight into his culture, and the asshole bard who drags you into problems... bah, I loved him despite himself. And the dealer’s a delightful asshole in both games.) The plot and characterization are startlingly good for a card game crossed with an action RPG meant to be played through several times in differentish ways to unlock things.
Anyway, the first Hand of Fate is less character-focused but also good and I like this developer and these games, so go get them and play them.
Malaclypse’s Quest are goddamn impossible
sure, you got 4 chances, but the precision gambit involves at least 4 Huge Failure bars (one of which basically moves with the itty bitty tiny gold bar), and the aforementioned tiny gold bar, a huge success that moves very fast.
So far, I have press the select button right when the beam was on top of it, twice I heard the cling of the gold bar the moment I pressed it, only for it to suddenly moves out of the way and goes to failure. Twice in a row
Sure, you can tip the odds in your favor, but the bullseye ring that supposedly “widen the beam” doesn’t do anything, the helm that slows down the pendulum doesn’t do anything at all
and that is assuming you somehow got them all before you were forced to the encounter to begin with...
it doesn’t help that when you fail the precision gambit, the narrator always gets chatty in the most annoying way possible
