Aphorism 14. The Philosophy of Tropical Littorals and Seashores. Satyendra Sunkavally.
One would expect the seashells on the sandy part of the beach to be intact, while those found next to rocks would be smashed to smithereens by the waves throwing them onto these rocks.
Yet just the opposite was witnessed. The second photo is of the shells found on the sandy sector, utterly fragmented, while the first, of shells found deposited on the sands slightly beyond the rocks, shows them to be whole and intact - both the gastropod shells and the bivalve shells. So many were they in fact that as I gathered them into a bag, I quipped to my assistant - only half-facetiously - that we would need to come a second time just for the express purpose of gathering up these seashells, they present in such abundant numbers that the rigid reification of rock just a few feet yonder, ithyphallic of incarnation, seemed almost to serve as a metaphor and symbol of this malacologic flood of fecundity and fertility.
I regret the loss of detail in the first photo but I had to reduce its pixels severely in order to get the upload to accept it.
