90% of the problems (or at least some problems) of some shows/movies would have been solved if the two love rivals decided to be together instead of arguing or decided to have a poly relationship with the person they liked.

"It goes thus— There is a man who cannot die. . . . You wake with Mal’s foot digging into your shin." ... What is power worth in another girl’s hand? What good is it if you close the fist? What kind of person finds a door in death and leaves it shut because the key was stolen? What kind of person hears her people crying and says, forgive me, I did not come by this power honestly? What do you owe the girl whose life you are spending? What do you owe the people who will die if you give it back? How far will you reach with your stolen hands? Whose name will you answer to when you come back? Or: does it count as coming back wrong if it was never your body to begin with? Alina Starkov Body Snatcher SI/OC Alina/Darkling/Mal

you all are simply not thinking big enough. multishipping is the only way to go about this I'm afraid.
He came to me in a dream. Maybe the same ones you were having.
thinkin about writing a malarklina soulmate au so I threw together a concept for a soulmark and then I had to make it ~aesthetic~
"It'll be alright."
(redraw of this old thing)
Listen. I'm a Darklina and Malina and Malarklina (and malarkling yes i am shut up) shipper BUT BUT I'm re-watching S&B s1 and Aleksander and Alina's ship makes me so uncomfortable. The whole time all I could think of was: this man is responsible for Genya's YEARS of sexual abuse, manipulated Alina and countless others, used Zoya (who's younger by centuries) repeatedly and threw her away like trash when he didn't need her, said "the many uses of Durast" about David Kostyk which shows how others are objects to him because he could've framed it so much better like "the advantages of being a Durast." but despite his centuries of experience of evolved speech, he could've said it more eloquently. he didn't. guess why? Because he doesn't give a shit.
Like Alina said, Aleksander does not give a fuck about the impact of his actions so long as his goals are met and god I was mad and uncomfortable at this character I used to like so much.
Of course he's complex and has his redeemable qualities but that's why he makes an excellent antagonist but NOT the kind of person I'd wish on Alina.
Perhaps in an au where Alina is older (like by centuries ish) and weathered? Sure. I do love Darklina in that sense.
(Quick rec for the above:
Start a War by nymja {their tumblr is @gizkasparadise} on ao3 is an EXCELLENT piece of work. Darklina fans go read it).
But this Alina? No. Absolutely not.
It's clear that her and Mal are meant to be.
Okay, so I 1. Am doing Dracula Daily this year and 2. Have Malarklina brain rot so! Of course a shadow and bone/Dracula fusion popped into my head!
Now the obvious set up is
Dracula = Aleksander
Jonathan = Mal
Mina = Alina
BUT!! Hear me out! What if instead
Dracula = Alina
Jonathan = Aleksander
Mina = Mal
It wouldn't even need to be vampires necessarily. It could be like, post cannon/reincarnation! Like Alina is immortal and centuries after canon she continues to live on. Maybe the Grisha have slowly died out and only a few remain. Alina has decided to leave the world behind and has started to let herself age by not using her powers and then one day she feels something! The broken tether in the back of her mind has reached out and latched onto something! It's Aleksander! Returned from the Making at the Heart of the World! She goes to him in the dream scape and it's obvious he remembers nothing of his past life! He's just a young man living in some far away city. It breaks her heart a little. He's so young, so innocent, so kind! He knows nothing of darkness, this version of him would never do harm to anyone.
She tries to stay away, to leave him be, but she can't help it! He was right before, the years have worn her down. She's so lonely. So she keeps invading his dreams and one night she sees something. Mal. Aleksander is dreaming of Mal! They're friends! More than that, they're lovers! Alina can't believe it!
She is consumed with a Want she hasn't felt since she was searching for the Amplifiers. Aleksander and Mal are Hers. They have always been Hers.
And she will have them. By any means necessary.
